NLL Insider Top 50: Scott Evans #16

Well, with the Top 50 being compiled in early September, it was kinda tough to foresee Scott Evans blowing out his knee during training camp, so he still remains our 16th ranked ball player in the Top 50.
Evans is the definition of a true power forward in lacrosse.
He’s as strong as a bull through traffic, as tough as they come when the gloves are on or off, skilled beyond belief, and has the ability to takeover a game like few can in the NLL.
Evans is also considered by many to be one of the sport’s ultimate pests, but as the trash talker told NLL Insider’s own Bob Chavez in Inside Lacrosse’s NLL Preview issue, there’s definitely a method to his madness.
“It you can get under someone’s skin and make them take a bad penalty, there’s plenty of motive right there.”
The former first round draft pick had a stellar year in 2008. He finished just three goals behind John Grant’s 47 and did it with 35 fewer total shots on goal, all while setting a career high in loosies too (88).
Evans also cut his 48 PIM from 2007 off by 20 total minutes, although his critics still frustratingly called him “dirty” from start-to-finish in ‘08.
His three game winners not surprisingly led the Hawks last year too (tied with bro Shawn), with Evans putting up some nasty scores in NLL Insider’s first ever edition of The Money Ballers.
He followed up his impressive winter by leading the very much hobbled Peterborough Lakers in scoring during both the regular season and then again in the playoffs, almost propelling them past Brampton, but ultimately falling to the Excels in a best-of-seven series that went a full seven gruelling games.
After coming off a 2008 that saw Evans post a combined 179 points playing behind Grant, it sucks that we have to ask ourselves, what coulda been for Evans in ‘09?
