Happy New Years!

“Movin’ on up”Although it’s not for the same reason,  I made the big move just after Christmas just like many NLLer’s will be doing over the next few days; making their current NLL city ‘home’.  Everyone knows how tiring a big move can be and even though it’s only for 6 months, the relocation to a new city always takes its toll. Whether driving across the country with a few of the boys on the team, by yourself or taking a plane ride, the trek there can be just as hectic as the arrival. With Mother Nature wreaking havoc across the board, some players may find it hard just to get there.

However, once there, players are able to give a bit of relaxing breath.  They are usually welcomed with comfortable liveable accommodations within distance to all of the important points of interest and are thankful they aren’t living in closet above the stands.  Whether it’s a one or two bedroom apartment like Rochester or a six bedroom ‘frat house’ like in Boston players see all sorts of rooming arrangements. But the most important part of going to a new city is finding the hot spots and secret gems. So fans, when you are getting that autograph from your favourite player, suggest your favourite restaurant, deli, store or quiet scenic spot so that your newest neighbour can enjoy the city to the best they can! I know I will be exploring all over Vancouver in the next few weeks to find a new ‘Pho’ spot!

 ”Suggate-Gait”

Sure it maybe a horrible spin off of the Nixon Watergate saga but hey, minds still on Holidays. But I think we all would like to know the real story behind this storyline…  I thought that Chicago folding at the last minute was going to be the last strange occurrence we were going to see before the season opener but with Paul Suggate stepping down just a week and half shy of the league’s start, one begins to wonder what the F-sharp is going on in Rochester. Did somebody spike the Genny beer? Or are the Garbage plates starting to take their toll? Regardless, out with the old, in with the slightly not as old. Paul Gait takes the reins for the Knighthawks and is going to have to find away to bring the cohesiveness back to a team that was once one of the most consistent teams just a few years ago. Losing close to 200 points is never an easy pill to swallow, but with the amount of talent that is coming out the front door I think the Hawks could produce some of the biggest break out seasons.

I don’t expect to see the Harlem Globetrotters style  play be implemented into the Hawks offense but I would imagine the Coach Gait will light a few fires under some peoples asses and will get everything he can out of his players at both ends of the ice.  But I think the one question that remains is who in the Knighthawks front office and coaching staff hasn’t played for the Hawks at some point in their careers!?

“A final Plea”

 Dear Mother Nature,

Thank you for giving little Lucy and Jo the white Christmas that they asked Santa for this year. It truly was a happy time for all with the wonderful white stuff blanketing much of North America over the past few weeks. PLEASE STOP! You made your point; you truly do hold us at your mercy with your powers. But we are all ready for a break from the constant shovelling of driveways, black ice and constant delays and cancelations at the airport. We have 12 teams that will be traveling coast to coast, as well as countless other sport teams, who will be giving us a much needed distraction from the painful days we have at work.  We have waited seven months, watched some of our heroes retire, seen some of our idols go down with serious injuries, had a team fold, a new schedule put in place and all we ask is for the season to start on time, with no hassles.  Please allow safe travel for both the Titans and the Rock to sunny Florida giving them all the opportunity to showcase what an amazing sport we truly do have despite some of our hang-ups.

We’ve had our share of snow ball fights, snow angels and woolly mammoth sightings. It’s now time for Geoff Snider fights, Philadelphia Angels and the only Mammoth I want to see if the one inside the Pepsi Centre.

 Thanks in advance,

NLL Fans world-wide!
