NLLinsider.com’s new fight analyst answers the question plaguing us all

With the ‘09 season barely underway we’ve got four months worth of fights to look forward to, and as far as analysis goes, NLLinsider is bringing you the best in the business: Tim “The Surgeon” O’Brien. Known as one of the most feared fighters this league will ever see, Tim will be checking in every two weeks to give you the goods on some of the best fights of the past and the present. What better way to get started than to find a definitive answer to a question even an NLL player poll was split on? With 41% of players calling this one a draw we’ll leave it to the expert to tell you who won the Rory Smith-Geoff Snider scrap of last season.
Hello all. Happy New Year to all you LAXers out there. Well, I’m glad to see that all those years of gettin punched in the face is finally payin off. As the new fight analyst of NLLinsider I get to critique all the bad mofos who drop the gloves and put their muggs on the line while defending a fellow warrior, getting their team pumped up, or after being scored on five or six times in a row. I’ll give my views and opinions of how and sometimes why someone got smacked around. Lets do this…
So the way I saw it: edge Snider. Geoff controlled the fight and seemed to hurt Rory with heavy punches. (For the definition of a heavy punch, think Snider vs Welsh.) It was nice to see Rory come right out and challenge Geoff. NY needs someone who can patrol the floor and strike fear into the opponents who look to take liberties on star players. ie: Sorensen vs Boyle. Anyway, back to the fight.
Rory looks to be a solid heavyweight in the NLL, he just needs to be able to go the distance against a rival. Near the end of the scrap, Snider was landing easy punches while a tired Smith was throwing pillows. Geoff just had more in the tank. The bottom line is that Snider threw more, landed more, and kept on pounding. Smith looked like he was on fumes about half way through. On a good note for Smith, it was nice to see him go round two (video).
So those are my thoughts on how that fight went. Best of luck to all the Weekend Warriors in the new season. I’ll be posting my views and breaking down fights punch by punch as often as I can. (About twice a month.) Thanks for reading, and as Brian Johnson from ACDC says: “It’s a long way to the top, if ya wanna ROCK AND ROLL.” O’Brien out.
