No excuses for Roughnecks

The way Troy Cordingley sees it, he’s in charge of a Calgary Roughnecks team that’s underachieved the past three or four seasons.  Yeah, there are excuses like injuries and unlucky bounces, but Cordingley’s not buying it.

“It has to stop,” Cordingley told the Calgary Sun. The stopping starts tonight when the ‘Necks open their 2009 National Lacrosse League season tonight on the road against the San Jose Stealth. The ‘Necks will be right back on the floor Saturday night when they return home to play the rival Edmonton Rush. A big part of turning everything around will be the offense with Tracey Kelusky, but Kaleb Toth wants a say in the season, too. “If I get 20 points and we win the championship, then I’d be happier than a fat kid on a Smartie,” he told the Sun in a separate story that’s part of a four-page season preview to the season in the newspaper. The bonus of this big spread in the paper is not just the stories on the Roughnecks, but the team-by-team preview capsules. Rock on.
