The Money Ballers: Week 2
Some interesting names have jumped up onto the leaderboard in The Money Ballers, one player rifling up the charts to the #2 spot in a losing effort.
Any guesses on who scored the most clutch points this past week while the rest of his team added little production behind him?
Find out after the jump, plus the other top 15 clutch scorers coming outta Week 2.
So who is it? The Toronto Rock’s (usually) secondary scoring threat, Kasey Beirnes.
Two weeks ago at the Florida Cup, Beirnes scored a hat-trick in the matter of something like seven minutes, and although impressive, it was his second trick of the year against the Buffalo Bandits on Saturday night that really scored him some money points in the countdown.
Not only did the former Columbus Landsharks draft pick make-up half of the Rock’s total offense in a scoreline reminiscent to last year’s disspointing season in TO, but all three of Kasey’s goals registered on The Money Ballers. His first knotted things up at the end of the first period, while his next two would give Toronto 3-2 and 6-5 leads.
Not surprisingly Mark Steenhuis leads the boards again this week, while Casey Powell also remains in the top third of the charts even though he only picked up a couple clutch points in a game the New York Titans led from the ten minute mark and onward (vs. Boston).
Calgary’s vet pair of Josh Sanderson, who dominated The Money Ballers last year, and Curt Malawsky, came outta the Necks’ first week of games looking pretty good. Both were credited with Calgary’s two game winners over the weekend, Malawsky’s coming in OT against the Edmonton Rush.
And who assisted on both of Calgary’s game winning goals? The guy that scored maybe the clutchiest of clutch goals in the league’s history, Mr. Kaleb Toth. Both of Calgary’s wins on the weekend came late, their W over San Jose clinched at the 13:37 mark of the fourth period and then of course Malawsky’s coming almost five minutes into OT.
For those that haven’t never seen Toth’s last second Cup clincher during the 2000 Champion’s Cup final, check ‘er out below…
And that’s about it for this week. So check out the leaders below, and with nine of the league’s twelve teams playing during Week 3, definitely check back next week for what will no doubt be another solid weekend’s worth of games. Rochester versus Buffalo, Toronto versus Calgary… you know those will be barn burners, guaranteed!!
