Will Records fall in 2009?

Is Athan Iannucci's record on the ropes? (Dave Sanders)
Although there is still a lot of lacrosse to be played, performances by the likes of Casey Powell, Dan Dawson and Brodie Merrill have certainly got a lot of people talking.
Last year a little later into the season, we asked if Athan Iannucci, although mathematically on pace to break Gary Gait’s single season goal scoring record, would he be able to keep it up? The response was definitely torn.
After the jump, check out what kinda numbers guys are on pace for about a quarter of the way into the season, and then hit the boards and let us know if they’ve got enough in the tank to keep it up.
GOALS
Current Single Season Record Holder: Athan Iannucci 71 (2008)
2009’s Contender: Casey Powell 16G after 4 games
Powelll is currently on pace to hit 64 goals by the end of the year, which would be better than Gait’s previous best of 61, but a couple games worth of goals short of AI’s 71 last year.
ASSISTS
Current Single Season Record Holder: Josh Sanderson 71 (2005)
2009’s Contender: Dan Dawson 21A after 4 games
Dawson is on pace to smash Shooter’s helper record in the same style Nooch did Gait’s last year. DDD’s end of season total is on pace to hit 84 assists. San Jose Stealth captain Colin Doyle is also on pace to beat Sanderson’s record with 76 of his own at the end of the year.
POINTS
Current Single Season Record Holder: John Tavares 115 (2001)
2009’s Contender: Casey Powell 33Pts after 4 games
While others have slowed down in recent weeks, Powell has held steady and is on pace to rock JT’s 115 with 132 points at the end of the year. Actually, Powell, Dawson, Doyle, Sanderson and Steenhuis are all on pace to at least touch 100 points this year, which would tie the 2005 season, that saw five of their own hit 100 (Doyle, Grant, Manning, Tavares and Sanderson).
LOOSEBALLS
Current Single Season Record Holder: Geoff Snider 244 (2008)
2009’s Contender: Brodie Merrill 91LB after 5 games
Merrill is scoopin’ up loosies at a rate that would trump Snider’s recent record by over 50 pickups, on pace for 296 this winter. Snider is actually on pace to break his own record last year by four LB’s too.
PENALTY MINUTES
Current Single Season Record Holder: Geoff Snider 103 (2008)
2009’s Contender: Rich Catton 34PIM after 2 games
This ones a bit harder to get a handle on since one outta left field bust-up can inflate the numbers quite a bit. Catton has played two of the Mammoth’s three games and has 34 PIM, mostly from his high hit on Ryan Powell and then immediate throw-down with Merrill, coming off Colorado’s bench to participate. Pretty unlikely that he’ll keep doing that every other game, but by the numbers, Catton is on pace for 255 end-of-year minutes, which isn’t including the suspensions he’d sit for if he copies what he did against the Jax. A more likely contender for Snider’s PIM crown would be Snider himself, who is on pace for 128 this year.
SAVES
Current Single Season Record Holder: Rob Blasdell 644 (2002)
2009’s Contender: Matt Disher 208SV after 5 games
Disher is having a career year in the cage with the Jax this year and is also on pace to break Blazer’s 2002 saves record. If he keeps turning shots away at the pace he’s set for himself this winter, The Fish will eclipse Blasdell’s mark with 666. Triple 6’s and a ginger?!?!? Yikes.
