NLL Player of the Week: Teat

We’ve got lots and lots of young guns in our National Lacrosse League and there’s no doubt they make the game exciting for us all. But when the old guys, er, veterans get some love, it’s a little extra cool, don’t ya think?

Maybe that’s why it’s so nice to see wily vet Dan Teat reap the NLL’s Player of the Week honors. Dude’s still getting it done and in two games last weekend, had 5 goals, 7 assists and 9 loosies. In Edmonton’s win over Colorado, the Teater had 3 goals and 4 assists. Here’s to many more, Teat. Joining Teat in the weekly honors is Boston’s Dan Dawson, who had 14 assists in Boston’s weekend sweep of the Philadelphia Wings to earn Offensive Player of the Week. Buffalo’s Mike Thompson made 58 saves in a win over Minnesota to earn Defensive Player of the Week, and Boston’s Daryl Veltman was named Rookie of the Week for the second straight week with 6 goals, 5 assists and 18 loosies in the sweep of Philly.

We’re starting to see a lot most consistency in The Trophy Case Chase now that most players have a good month under their belts and are shakin’ off all that rust.

With Mark Steenhuis getting handcuffed for most of the game against a relentless Minnesota D, most would probably agree that New York Titans’ scoring ace Casey Powell is the fave for the MVP nod.

Doneger Cam: Hott Blonde Trainer

San Jose Stealth forward Michael Doneger is back with his latest video blog. This time he realizes that life without his former Hopkins’ trainer Jay Dyer isn’t the same at all. He goes on a search to find a replacement and hits the jackpot. This girl might not cheer for the Stealth, but she has my vote for the NLL Girl of the Week.

Check out the video below.

NLL Girl of the Week: Meghan

Oh captain, my captain. If you’ve ever seen Dead Poets Society, you know all about that line. But if you haven’t seen the flick, it’ll still work here because the newest National Lacrosse League Girl of the Week is Meghan, captain of the Buffalo Bandits dance team.

Meghan’s in her fourth year with the Bandits so she’s seen quite a bit. She knows how much the HSBC rocks, probably because she and her dancemates have a lot to do with getting it that way. And if you tell us the Bandits themselves do the rockin’, well, she’s not gonna argue. She not only dances for the team, she’s up to date on the scene with a bunch of knowledge in her head when it comes to the game of box lacrosse. Stats? She knows ‘em? Records? That too. “I feel that as long as I’m on the dance team, I want to know about the Bandits team, learn the rules and become a fully involved fan,” she told NLL.com.

What else is Meghan up to? READ MORE »

Snider featured on TruTV tonight

Those of us in the lacrosse world know what Geoff Snider brings to the game and the Philadelphia Wings. The rest of the world is about to get a sweet introduction.

One of the National Lacrosse League’s most feared fighters is set to be featured on an upcoming episode of the show Most Daring, on TruTV. The show airs tonight at 9 p.m. Eastern and will be broadcast again later on the same channel, so check your local listings. If you’re not quite sure what TruTV is, it used to be called CourtTV and it’s carried on just about every cable system. For those with satellite, check out Ch. 246 on DirecTV and Ch. 204 on the Dish Network. And if ya still can’t find it that way, check out the preview clip that can be found on the NLL.com homepage. It’s a pretty nice 3-minute feature that includes clips from a few different fights as well as some interviews with Snides.

Gee Nash on IR, Mammoth sign Palidwor

Press release: The Colorado Mammoth has announced that goalie Gee Nash has been placed on injured reserve.

A staple in the Colorado net since 2004, Nash has tallied 44 career wins with the Mammoth.  The perennial All-Star, Nash has been fighting a nagging back injury since early in the season.  “It’s incredibly disappointing to lose someone of the caliber of Gee,” Mammoth General Manager Steve Govett admitted.  “But right now the focus needs to be on his health.”

Roughnecks look like the real deal

roughnecks-look-like-the-real-deal

Four games into the season and the Roughnecks sit atop the West Division with an unblemished record.

A pair of wins over the Stealth, coupled with defeats of the Rush and Rock, have the Riggers off to their best start in franchise history.

While this is surprising to many, it shouldn’t be. This team is a serious contender for the Champion’s Cup.

More Parity Less Clarity

more-parity-less-clarity

Who would have called that weekend eh? Well it seems as if Chavez did but that’s only because he called up Marty McFly and Doc Brown for a little assistance. In a year that we thought we would see a little more clarity, we got a whole lot more parity! Let’s have a quick look at some of my key points from the weekend!

Dream matchup 3: Lads vs. Burke

Boom, boom. Out go the lights for Scott Evans after the second installment of our Dream Matchups.

The Knighthawks forward was dropped by Jamie Hackel (thanks to astute posters over at WingsZone for the proper spelling of dude’s last name) by a vote of 312-259 and is gonna advance. Just who Hackel’s gonna roll with next remains to be seen because before that, we’ve got a real heavyweight battle to figure out. The Week 3 bout? Current Toronto Rock big man Dan Ladouceur against former Rochester Knighthawks enforcer Tim Burke. Yeah, big-time brawl here. Neither one of these fellas is afraid to drop ‘em at anytime and both of these fellas believe they’re the biggest, baddest thing to strut their stuff on the floor. What more do you need to set up a big-time brawl that’d have fans screaming their domes off with each jab and punch?

So who wins? Read on to read more and find the poll where you can cast your vote. READ MORE »
