Roughnecks remain unbeaten with 13-8 win

Last night was brought to you by the number five as the Calgary Roughnecks moved to 5-0 on the season with a 13-8 win over the Minnesota Swarm, while Josh Sanderson’s five points propelled him into the top five NLL scorers of all time.
The Roughnecks started out strong, going up 5-0 in the first quarter while the Swarm struggled to get a shot on goal let alone a shot in goal.
The second quarter went a little better as the Swarm held the Roughnecks to just two goals while scoring one of their own to make it 7-1 heading into the second half. The Swarm actually outscored the Roughnecks 7-6 in the third and fourth quarters, but the big Calgary lead was too much to overcome. The Swarm will have a chance to bounce back tonight at home against the Colorado Mammoth, while Calgary’s next shot at extending their unbeaten streak will come on Valentine’s Day at the Pepsi Center.
Tracey Kelusky led all scorers with four goals and five assists, including a sprawling shorthanded goal sure to be considered a highlight, despite his objections. Kaleb Toth had three goals and one assist, and both Sanderson and Dane Dobbie scored once and assisted on four. Pat Campbell frustrated the Swarm offense, stopping 38 of 46 while Mike Carnegie led the tenacious Calgary defense. Dean Hill and Chad Culp had three points apiece for the Swarm.
