Steenhuis snaps two National Lacrosse League records during slaughter of Rock

The Toronto Rock may not have gotten much love from the Buffalo Bandits on Valentine’s Day, but at least they got plenty of action in the 25-10 demolition derby that gave Buffalo their sixth win of the season.

Though Roger Vyse scored six goals and assisted on two, Cory Bomberry notched nine points on three goals and six assists, and John Tavares had four goals and one helper, the star of the show was Mark Steenhuis as he totaled 17 points on four goals and 13 assists, ten of the 13 being first assists.

With that, he has replaced John Grant Jr. in the record books for the most points scored in a single game, besting the old mark of 15 by two, and thumping the newest member of the 200-400-600 club Derek Malawsky down a notch in the single-game assists column, topping Malawsky’s 11.

In addition to holding the Toronto offense hostage and inspiring three goaltending changes, the Buffalo Bandits only gave up one power play opportunity, went 5 for 10 on their own man-up, and actually looked pretty sharp in a daring third jersey design. For the Rock, both Blaine Manning and Luke Wiles had three goals.
