National Lacrosse League Dream Matchup 7: It’s Ogilvie vs. Candy

Boom, boom! Out go the lights for … Troy Bonterre. Seems ya’ll have plenty of love for Pat Campbell’s skills as a pugilist (that’s boxing, Jenner) and he KO’d the Big Daddy by a vote count of 117-84 in last week’s Dream Matchup. So now it’s on to Dream Matchup No. 7 as the scene heats up here at the fight club. So who’s throwin’ down this week? Two VERY familiar names and you just know this would a dandy: We’ve got Andy Ogilvie and Drew Candy on center stage for this bout.

If ever a matchup needed no words, this one’s it. Still, we gotta write something, right? First, Ogs. Was there a more feared man in the league? This former Buffalo Bandits and Calgary Roughnecks enforcer and current coach of Coquitlam was tough as nails and scared of no one. It’s that combination that separates the fighters from the great fighters, and Ogilvie was certainly one of the best. You want strong? You want Ogilvie poundin’ for you. In fact, the legend of the 6-1, 210-pounder outta the ‘Borough was the inspiration for one of colleague Paul Tutka’s triva questions last week, so check it out if you wanna know more about the man who apparently would grunt like an animal as he rained blows upon your dome.

Now, Candy. Dude was a 50-50 shot in any scrap he entered, but he took on all comers. Big or small, fast or slow, he’d dance. And win or lose, he was no pushover. At 6-2 and 215 pounds, the kid outta London was an emotional player and whatever he was feelin’, he let you know. You wanna D up? His pleasure. You wanna throw down? He’s game. He bounced around with Toronto, Philly and Buffalo before playing the last two seasons in Chicago. Rest assured, though, whatever sweater he was wearin’, he was ready to roll and had your back.
So who’s it gonna be? Ogs or Candy? The nice thing about this whole intertrons thing is that you, the fan, have the power to rock the vote. Git ‘r done!
