Wings extend win streak to two with 14-9 win over Rush, plus links

Edmonton Rush fans certainly got their dollar’s worth of lacrosse last night. From the other team. The Philadelphia Wings took a 3-1 lead to start the first and by the end of the third had a 10-4 stranglehold, eventually ending the game with a 14-9 win on the strength of six goals from Merrick Thomson and four from AJ Shannon.

In addition to the big nights from Thomson and Shannon, Drew Westervelt put up two goals and two assists, Mat Giles scored one and assisted on four, Kyle Wailes set up five, and Thomas Hajek dished three. Brandon Miller turned away 39 of 48, including 12 in the first quarter and 13 in the fourth.

For the Rush, Andy Secore had four goals and two assists, including two goals in the fourth quarter comeback attempt. Callum Crawford scored twice and assisted on one, and Mike Hominuck scored one and assisted on three. Chris McKay snapped up 12 looseballs.

Philadelphia will look to extend their win streak to three tonight in Portland, 10:30 PM EST.
