National Lacrosse League Week 9: Here’s a look ahead

Athan Iannucci’s back in Philadelphia, but will Casey Powell be back for New York? Can Craig Point and the Rochester Knighthawks keep the offensive momentum? Is two straight losses enough of a wakeup call for the Calgary Roughnecks, and how will the Buffalo Bandits get even better, even IF (that’s a big “if”) stud Mark Steenhuis doesn’t play this weekend? And remember the Portland LumberJax? They’re back on the floor for the first time since Feb. 7 as Week 9 of the National Lacrosse League gets ready to unfold. READ MORE »

The National Lacrosse League’s East versus West debate

This year’s inclusion of Minnesota to the National Lacrosse League’s Western Division sparked a lot of debate.

Some felt the Swarm, one of the East’s heavy hitters in ‘08, would trash what appeared to be a weaker Western Division this winter.

Well after the fact however, now that the Swarm have tripped outta the gates to a 2-5 record (although 2-2 versus the West), others are playing the whole, “Oh yeah, I coulda told you that” line, claiming that a stronger West is too much for Minny. READ MORE »

2010 NLL Indoor Classic Game

2010-nll-indoor-classic-game

Last week Jon Brand and I were discussing a couple of ways to boost viewership of the NLL and he mentioned doing a winter classic style game much like they do in the NHL. Just imagine 16 thousand fans watching Philly and Rochester battle it out at Lincoln Financial Stadium, or how about Edmonton and Calgary playing a game at Commonwealth Stadium. Now of course this is all speculation that the weather would cooperate as we all know you don’t play box lacrosse in the snow!

National Lacrosse League Player of the Week: It’s Dan Dawson of the Blazers

Tough choice for National Lacrosse League Player of the Week but when it came down to it, it was Dangerous Dan Dawson. In Boston’s two wins last weekend, DDD factored in 19 of 27 goals to help the Blazers to a weekend sweep of Minnesota and Calgary. That leaves Offensive Player of the Week honors for Mark Steenhuis, who scored eight goals, including the overtime winner for Buffalo against Toronto. Boston’s Jon Hartnett is the Defensive Player of the Week, Rochester’s Bobby McBride is the Transition Player of the Week and San Jose’s Rhys Duch is Rookie of the Week.
