National Lacrosse League Girl of the Week: Matchup 1 is Gina vs. Meghan

Well, well, well. We’re back.  What better week to kick off our National Lacrosse League Girl of the Week contest than during the All-Star break? Not that we want a breather from all the action of the game, but it is important that we recognize the efforts of others who help the game so much. And just so ya know, this contest has NOTHING to do with how hot the dancers are. Nothing like that at all. So git yer mind outta the gutter and take a look at our first round matchup, Boston’s Gina vs.  Buffalo’s Meghan.

Remember Gina? She’s from way back in Week 2 of the NLL season. The Blazers are an expansion team, kinda sorta, but Gina’s no expansion dancer. She’s been gettin’ her groove on since the age of 2 and when she’s not busy with that, she’s cleaning your chicklets. That’s right, Gina’s a dental hygenist. So when she says open wide, open wide. And don’t try that trick of eating a bag of Oreo cookies just before you walk into the office. It’s not cool. Besides, she’d be more impressed if you ate a bag of mozzarella cheese. It’s one of her favorites … “I put it on everything” …

But lest you think it’s all dance and dentists, Gina is in a line of royalty. She’s the reigning Miss Western Massachusetts. What’s that good for? Pride, obviously, but it also can’t suck if you’re a student at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and you roll into class to sit next to her. That’s where Gina’s a current student and with so many options in life in front of her, who knows which direction is gonna pull the hardest. For now, though, we’re just thrilled to see her fired up for the Blazers.

Up against Gina is Meghan, captain of the dance squad for the Buffalo Bandits. She’s a wily veteran of the squad, dancing in her fourth season. What that means is that Meghan’s into more than just being a, well, cheerleader. She’s learned the Xs and Os of the game and that’s knowledge that she’ll be able to pass along to her 6-year-old daughter, along with the passion of dance. Like Gina, Meghan’s been dancing since a single-digit age and all these years later, she’s showing no signs of slowing down. And if her daughter does indeed show an interest in dance, at least she’s got the hook-up for some free or inexpensive lessons. Mom Meghan runs a dance studio where she teaches all sorts of disciplines, including ballet, lyrical and private.

So now it’s time. Time to get your vote on. Think long and hard about it and above all, remember to be fair.

What type of celebrations would you like to see after big NLL goals?
