Hall named coach of San Jose Stealth

There’s a coaching change for the San Jose Stealth, who announced late Thursday night that Chris Hall will step into the position of head coach of the National Lacrosse League team. Former head coach Jeff Dowling will remain with the team as offensive coordinator. Hall, of course, is no stranger to being a head coach. He led the Calgary Roughnecks to the Champion’s Cup in 2004. Last fall, he was named to the Stealth staff but the team is off to a disappointing 3-7 start and that includes three straight losses for a team many expected to defend its West title.
“We are very happy Chris has accepted this new role,” Stealth president and general manager Johnny Mouradian said in a statement Thursday night of Hall, who never had a losing season in his six seasons with the Calgary club. “We have underachieved so far this season and look forward to turning around the last part of the season and making a push for the playoffs.”
Neither Hall nor Dowling were available for comment Thursday night.
Hall inherits a team that plays the Edmonton Rush on Saturday night in a matchup of 3-7 teams. The winner obviously avoids the West basement and the Stealth will have some new faces in the lineup to reach that goal. Shaydon Santos canceled his retirement to return to the team, and the trade for Andrew Biers and activation of Steve Holmes should give the San Jose club some much-needed stability on the defensive end.
