National Lacrosse League Dream Matchups: It’s Jamie Hackel vs. Rory Smith

Did we read these numbers right? Geoff Snider’s done? You betcha, at least according to the votes of you. Thing is, if Snider’s gonna lose a fight to anyone, it’s gotta be to someone like Andy Ogilvie, who outpolled Snider by a 966-666 count in the last installment of our National Lacrosse League Dream Matchups. Anyone else notice the coincidence of Snider’s vote count? Yeah, me either. In any case, on we go to the next round of our matchups, which puts Jamie Hackel up against Rory Smith.

The first thing we had to do with Hackel for this round was correct the spelling of his last name. We screwed it up last time out and the last thing we wanna do is piss off that guy. Especially if he’s bringing down those fists of fury backed by a 6-4, 255-pound frame. On top of that, do you ever wanna mess with a guy who’s nickname is Spike? He even said once in an interview that besides John Tavares being pretty much his lacrosse god, the fella he’d like to meet most is John Holmes. Did Holmes ever play lacrosse? Can’t be sure about that, but let’s just say the former movie star made a living with his own sort of action. Hackel’s a former Buffalo Bandit, which explains his reverance for JT. But when it comes down to it, Hackel’s a man’s man and he proved it in his first-round win over Scott Evans. So if dude outta Langley, B.C., gets his fight on like that, you know he’s comin’ with some serious heat.

As for Smith, his skills have been on display a little more recently in the NLL and so he’s no real secret. Legendary for his toe-to-toe battle with Snider last season, we all know Smith’s no push-over and will defend anyone wearing the same sweater. Smith had a pretty tough first-round matchup, but outpolled Rochester’s Kyle Laverty by a 207-170 count back in early February. By now, the machine’s gotta be greased a bit more and you know he’s ready to throw down when the bell rings. At 6-0, 198 pounds, he’s gonna give up a little bit in reach and power when matched up against Spike, but it’s nearly impossible to measure passion and you know he brings plenty of it.
So who is it, dear reader? Hackel or Smith? Cast your vote and make it count today.
