Stealth top Swarm in National Lacrosse League nailbiter, 18-8

All sarcasm aside, there was some suspense in last night’s game between the San Jose Stealth and Minnesota Swarm. Would Minnesota ever crack the score sheet? Yes! After 21 minutes and goals from Colin Doyle (x2), Tom Johnson (x2), Rhys Duch (x2), Paul Rabil and Cam Sedgwick put SJ ahead 8-0, it was Sean Pollock finally beating Tyler Richards to put the Swarm on the board and get them on their way to an 18-8 loss.
Rabil, Duch and Johnson each struck again in the first half to widen the gap to 11-1, with Duch and Johnson haunting Minnesota goaltenders once more in the third quarter along with Jeff Zywicki to put San Jose in front 14-1 before Ryan Sharp and Kevin Ross started the Swarm down the long road to an attempted comeback. The Swarm actually outscored the Stealth 5-4 in the fourth quarter but it was a cup of water in the ocean at that point as the Stealth finished their onslaught 18-8.
Colin Doyle exploded for three goals and ten assists, nine of his ten coming on first assists. Johnson and Duch each scored five goals, with Duch adding three helpers as well, and Cam Sedgwick scored one and set up six. Defender Kyle Sorensen assisted on three and picked up ten looseballs. Behind him, Richards stopped 46 of 54, including 29 saves on 30 shots in the Swarm’s nightmarish first half.
For the Swarm, Kevin Buchanan and Sean Pollock each scored twice. Minnesota will have the opportunity to vent a few frustrations tonight vs. the Edmonton Rush.
