Colin Doyle sets Stealth record. Are more on the way?

Although not receiving anywhere near as much attention as Athan Iannucci’s single season goal scoring pursuit last winter, Colin Doyle continues to flirt with the National Lacrosse League record books after posting three goals and an impressive ten assists in the San Jose Stealth’s 18-8 beatdown of the Minnesota Swarm last night.

Firstly, Doyle set a Stealth single season scoring record when he finished things up with 99 points after his 14th game of the season last night.

He broke the previous record set by current teammate Jeff Zywicki, who held onto the record for under a year after scoring 90 points last winter.

Doyle is also just four points shy of matching the franchise’s all-time single season scoring record, which currently belongs to Josh Sanderson, who scored 103 points with the Albany Attack in 2002.

And speaking of Sanderson set records, Doyle now is the frontrunner to set a new NLL single season assists record, on pace to finish the year with 77 helpers, which would break Sanderson’s previous record of 71. Boston Blazers’ offensive leader, Dan Dawson, is also on pace to break Sanderson’s current record, set in 2005 while with the Toronto Rock.

And the last record Doyle looks like he’ll be hovering around two games from now? The Stealth captain is currently on pace to finish the year with 113 points, which would leave him two shy of John Tavares‘ single season point record (115).

San Jose teammate, rookie Rhys Duch, is now just four points away from matching Gavin Prout’s rookie scoring record of 82 points. Duch had five goals and three helpers in the game against the Swarm last night.

The Stealth’s final two games this season will be against the Colorado Mammoth and Toronto Rock, both played away from the HP Pavilion in San Jose.

Note: Knock on wood.
