National Lacrosse League Dream Matchups: It’s Tim O’Brien vs. Andy Ogilvie

When we kicked off this whole Dream Matchups series, never did we think we’d ever find a goalie doing so well. Aren’t goalies to fighting kinda like Europeans are to tough hockey players? Too bad Grapes isn’t around to answer that question for us but we don’t need him. That’s because Pat Campbell answers that for us with a resounding 375-87 win over Ryan McNish in last week’s matchup. So that sets up our final four and our first semifinal is a dandy: Tim O’Brien against Andy Ogilvie.

We’ve tried before, and failed. Failed to put into words just how devastating a fighter Tim O’Brien can be. He’s fresh in our memories as a National Lacrosse League pounder, and it’s no real surprise to see him advance this far. As we all know, The Surgeon may not have been the biggest guy, at least physically, on the floor. But when it came to heart or sanity, dude’s second to none. And speaking of sanity, how fine is that line between being sane and being crazy? It’s all in good fun that we look at that question, because we know that Timmy’s fights were the result of sending messages or covering for his boys, and never just for the hell of it. Well, almost never. Point is, if O’Brien’s inviting you to dance or accepting your invite, there’s a method to the madness and more often than not, he was cleanin’ up.

As for Ogilive, we covered the grunting you might hear as he rains blows upon the dome. But as he goes up against O’Brien, you’d be wise to see that there’s more to Ogs than just that shaved dome and grunting as he whipped the tar outta you. He put down some pretty hefty competition to get this far. Drew Candy was his first victim, followed by Geoff Snider and his win over Snides wasn’t even that close. So you who cast your votes know you were rollin’ for one tough dude. Besides, when you have legendary tough guys like Pat Coyle calling you “the toughest guy I’ve seen,” you know you’re packin’ some serious heat in those haymakers.
So who’s it gonna be, fight fans? Cast your vote today for O’Brien and Ogilive and we’ll be getting to that other semifinal right quick to find out who you all think is the toughest fighter in the National Lacrosse League.
