National Lacrosse League Power Rankings: Week 15

Well there are not a lot of obvious changes in the order of the Power Ranking but things have definitely changed as far as balance of “Power”. At one time, the Calgary Roughnecks and Buffalo Bandits were far away better than the rest of the NLL. They are still the top two teams in the Power Rankings but there are three more teams that are behind them by the slimmest margins. New York, Boston and Portland all looked strong in the second last weekend of the regular season. What else do we know? Calgary clinched first (barely) and the Toronto Rock have been officially eliminated, but other than that we still have a battle for first in the East and fourth place is still up for grabs in both divisions. Check it out.

1 (1)

Calgary Roughnecks
11-4
Split the weekend games and clinched first but home loss to Portland can’t be good for confidence heading into playoffs.

2 (2)

Buffalo Bandits
10-5
Beat their old rival Rochester, but lost to their new rival, the New York Titans, for the second time. Who would have thought they would not have first wrapped up by now.

3 (3)

New York Titans
9-6
Anytime you beat Buffalo you’re doing something right. Have won four of their last five and have a legitimate chance to take first place next weekend.

4 (4)

Boston Blazers
9-6
Shut down Rochester’s offence with a 10-5 victory on Saturday. Those are the type of wins that a coach just loves heading to playoffs.

5 (5)

Portland Lumberjax
9-6
Two huge victories on the road this weekend. Another win over Calgary next week would make a big statement heading into the playoffs.

6 (8)

San Jose Stealth
7-8
Overtime win over Colorado is the third straight victory for Stealth who have got hot at the right time. Next weekend’s game in Toronto might not affect the standings but Colin Doyle returns home for the first time with a shot at John Tavares’ scoring record.

7 (7)

Philadelphia Wings
7-8
Pulled off a close victory over the Toronto Rock but they still have to win their last game against the Knighthawks in Rochester make the post season. (Yes, I verified the tie breaking procedures)

8 (6)

Rochester Knighthawks
6-9
Terrible results (two losses) for the weekend but they still will make the playoffs if they win their last game (at home against Philly).

9 (9)

Colorado Mammoth
6-9
Tough overtime loss against the Stealth. Still have a shot at playoffs.

10 (10)

Minnesota Swarm
6-9
Got smoked again, at home. Still have a shot at playoffs but don’t deserve it.

11(11)

Edmonton Rush
5-10
Played a great game against the Roughnecks but could not finish it off. I can’t believe but they still have a chance to make the playoffs. If the Rush beat Colorado their last game and Minnesota lose to New York, the Rush would miraculously make it.

12 (12)

Toronto Rock
5-10
Toronto played well against the Wings, but once again came up just a little short. They end the season against their Ex-Superstar Colin Doyle and the San Jose Stealth.
