National Lacrosse League Girl of the Week: It’s Kirsten vs. Marie

It’s been a bit of time since last we had an installment of our National Lacrosse League Girl of the Week contest, and for good reason. When ya get 14,068 total votes cast, it tends to get the attention of the tournament director. The way we figure, Heidi’s 7,506-6,562 win over Angela had a lot to do with the fact that they dance for the same Colorado Mammoth team but whatever, we sure were tickled pink to see the interest. Who says democracy is dead? We vote for the important issues and now it’s time to meet Kirsten and Marie for the final first-round matchup.

Kirsten comes to us via the Buffalo Bandits and while she won’t be up against a teammate in this matchup, she is going head-to-head with a dancer from another East Division team. Does that count? Well, maybe it’s not as interesting as teammates doing battle, but we’ll still chalk it up as one of those classic Eastern rivalries. Kirsten first came our way back on April 15, tax day. Coincidence? That’s another question we can’t answer, at least not with any amount of relevant satisfaction, so we’re just gonna go with what we’ve got. Kirsten grew up on Long Island and was surrounded by family members who played lacrosse, so she’s not stranger to the game. She took right to the Bandits style and as the playoffs get started, we know she’s got plenty to cheer for as the defending champs hit the floor running against Boston next weekend. She’s been dancing since the age of 3 so you’d think that’d be an advantage as she stumps for your votes, but you’d better think again.

Marie, introduced to us just earlier on the day this first-round matchup gets underway, has been dancing since she was 1 year old. Yeah. That’s what she tells NLL.com, anyway, and seeing as she’s a rookie dancer with the Philadelphia Angels team, who’s gonna question anyone from Philly? That’s the quickest way to get your lip split. Just kidding, of course. Doubting information such as that really is no reason to punch anyone in the grill, no matter what city you’re from. Marie, like just about every other dancer we’ve profiled on these here pages, harbors aspirations of dancing for the rest of her life, be it as a dancer herself or as an instructor. She’s working on that dream now and one day hopes to have a career at the Koresh Dance School in Philadelphia. And unless you’ve been living under a rock these days, you know that Marie and the Wings won’t have a playoff dance this year, although they did come pretty close. Don’t hold that against ‘em, though. God knows they gave it a good shot and you just know that if you asked Marie today, tomorrow or four months from now, she’s gonna tell you that the Wings do indeed rock. And just wait ’till next year!
So there it is, fans, the final first-round matchup of our Girls of the Week contest. Kirsten or Marie? You decide, and when we return next week, we’ll have the first second-round matchup of this contest, the winner of which will be our first semifinalist.
