National Lacrosse League Girl of the Week: Semifinal No. 1 is Gina vs. Kelly

By now, Gina and Kelly are seasoned veterans in the perspective of this National Lacrosse League League Girl of the Week contest. Each have a pair of victories when it comes to polling, but today, they’re butting heads for a spot in the 2009 championship matchup. Gina’s cracked more than 1,000 votes in each of her wins, while Kelly cleared the 3,000 count in her quarterfinal victory. So yeah, there’s proof in the numbers that they’re pretty popular ’round these parts. But now, it’s serious. Now, it’s go time.

Like we said, Gina’s been an absolute force in her two matchups. In fact, her closest margin of victory was by ,1071 votes so if that doesn’t give ya any sort of idea of her polling power, we don’t know what will. So how does she do it? Is it her beauty queen title? Is it her job as a dental hygenist? Is it because she’s with the Blazers in Boston, a city that’s got boat loads of sports karma workin’ for the Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins of late? Thing is, we can’t even really pull the rivalry card. Sure, Boston may have scoreboard on the Yankees, Knicks and Rangers and Islanders as of late, but New York’s lacrosse team was in the title game this year. Still, the Boston laxers were an expansion team this season and though we’re sure to bet that none of the fellas want to use that as an excuse, it’s still gotta count for something, right? OK … maybe not. ‘Cause the Blazers were a playoff team despite their expansion status. The truth of the matter is, though, Gina is Boston’s only remaining connection that’s still got any sort of life in the NLL, so maybe she’ll have something to say before this is all over.

Up in Edmonton, Kelly’s got it going on for a Rush team that missed the playoffs altogether. That’s not a knock on the Rush, who we get the feeling had plenty of people pullin’ for them to make the playoffs, but it just didnt’ work out. And it’s not like the Edmonton Oilers are makin’ much, if any, noise this postseason either. So that leaves us with Kelly and all the votes she can muster to represent Edmonton. Gotta say, too, that we were a bit surprised at the dominant effort she put in to get this far, beating Emily pretty soundly in the quarterfinal round. Can she maintain? It’s up to you, the voter, of course. So let’s open the poll and see what kinda game Kelly has got. We’ve gotten a few e-mails over the course of this contest voicing plenty of support for the dancer, so let’s see if those fans are still out there, ready to vote.

Gina or Kelly? Your vote DOES matter because the winner of this poll lands a spot in our championship matchup, so don’t delay. Get your vote in now before the poll closes right quick.
