This summer NLL Insider will be previewing the 2009 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft with unprecedented coverage with prospect profiles, interviews, rankings, team needs and much more.
Inside Lacrosse will also be checking in throughout the NLL off-season with coverage on some of the best American crop available at the draft this year, taking a look at how those players are doing in their first season in the MLL and what they might bring to the indoor game.
We will be releasing a Hot 30 Player Draft Ranking in June, July, August and also a final assessment in the week leading up to the NLL Entry Draft, usually held in early or mid-September. (Checkout our ‘08 Hot 30)
As we announced earlier this year, former Whitby Warriors stud, Bryant attackman and ‘09 Tewaaraton Award finalist, Zack Greer, is NLL Insider’s early favourite to go first overall almost four months from now.
It’s not expected that Cody Jamieson, currently playing with Syracuse University, will be entering the ‘09 draft after being cleared to fully participate with the Orange last month. If Jamieson remains with Syracuse next year, like most would expect him to do, Cody will only be pro draft eligable in the 2010 NLL Entry Draft.
Also below, check out what presently the all-important first round of this year’s draft looks like, with the Rochester Knighthawks owning the first two picks in the draft after trades with the Edmonton Rush (Mike Auccrsi trade) and Toronto Rock (Aaron Wilson trade). It’s widely expected in most circles that the Knighthawks will hold onto at least one of those picks to draft Syracuse defenseman and former Six Nations Arrows standout pure defender, Sid Smith, who’ll be playing it the NCAA Final Four this weekend.
2009 NLL Entry Draft Order, First Round
1. Rochester Knighthawks (via Edmonton Rush)
2. Rochester Knighthawks (via Toronto Rock)
3. Minnesota Swarm
4. Colorado Mammoth
5. Colorado Mammoth (via Rochester Knighthawks)

7. Toronto Rock (via Edmonton Rush, via Portland Lumberjax)
8. Boston Blazers
9. Edmonton Rush (via Buffalo Bandits)
10. New York Titans
11. Calgary Roughnecks
12. Edmonton Rush (via San Jose Stealth, via Chicago Shamrox)
This is how the first round stands as of today, but depending on what goes on during the NLL’s off-season in regards to team movement and trades, things could obviously change.
Stay tuned to NLL Insider all summer for pre-draft coverage of the ‘09 NLL Entry Draft.
