A look at the BCJLL

a-look-at-the-bcjll

The BC Junior loop is in full swing and it seems to be turning into a bit of a two horse race but as we saw in the NLL this season, though a team may not get off to a great start they can still end up near the top. The action has been as fast and intense as we have come to expect from the next generation of ballers.

You can expect a tight battle between the Victoria Shamrocks and Coquitlam Adanacs for first place as both teams are atop the standings with 16 points, although the A’s are undefeated at 8-0 and have played one less game than the Rocks. Coquitlam handed Victoria it’s only loss of the season and have started to feel the pressure from the rest of the league.  Teams seem to bump up their play when battling the defending regular season champs and this is only making them that much more confident in their game. Robert Church leads the league in scoring with 48 points (20G’s and 28A’s) in his first full season of junior ball. He’s not alone.  Two players that have found their stride are Trevor Moore, a big left handed shot that has a game style much like Luke Wiles. Six Nations Arrow Corbyn Tao, who has come back home to the Palace on Porier, has taken over as floor general on offence and has fit in seamlessly.

On the other side of the ball Matt Beers, Brandon Turner, Shane Karset and Jeffery Cornwall have put pressure on opposing offences from the opening whistle and it’s resulted in constant transition opportunities. Dan Lewis and Chris Seidel have been excellent between the pipes for Coach Dan Perrault and are letting in no more than 7 goals a game on average. Both play great angles and are very active in out letting passes. A lot of their success has to be lead to the addition of former Mann Cup winner and NLL veteran Dwight Maetche on the bench.

Coquitlam looks to be the team to beat this year but obviously every team will try to challenge them to the ends of their abilities.

In other Junior A news, the first annual Prospects game will go July 1st at Queens Park Arena in New Westminster.  All eight teams will be represented in this game that will help showcase the level of talent out west and give NLL and WLA general managers a look at the next crop of players that are draft eligible and of course undrafted; sorry Matt Yeager, you can’t play…. The game will be broadcast live by Brad Challoner and yours truly, live online on July 1st, not sure of the website yet, most likely www.junioradanacs.com. That website is where you’ll see every home game played by the Junior Adanacs, and the Junior B team as well as both Intermediate A and B teams.

Wherever you are, there is bound to be a game that boasts the next great player to join the NLL ranks so make sure you head out to your local Junior association and support the future of our game!
