Weekend scores and game story links from Jr. A and B

Plenty of action in B.C., Alberta, and Ontario this weekend, so here’s a quick look at who did what against who. A bit of the same ol’ same ol’ from Orangeville, a rough weekend for Akwesasne, and a look at the team that finally topped the Coquitlam Adanacs in B.C. Junior ball.

Saturday, June 6

Barrie Lakeshores 18 Akwesasne Indians 3

Shane Cater and Caleb Wiles each went wild in the rout of Akwesasne, with Wiles putting up nine points on three goals and six helpers, and Cater eight points on three and five. Colin McDowall and Dustin Leigh each contributed seven points in the win, and Brandon Noble held it down in the Lakeshores net.

Sunday, June 7

Six Nations Arrows 8 St. Catharines Athletics 6

The A’s fall to 8-2 while Six Nations locks up their third win in a row, largely thanks to Pierce Abrams and his three goals and Randy Johnson’s 38 saves.

Orangeville Northmen 19 Mississauga Tomahawks 3

Anyone expecting the Northmen to take it easy on an 0-12 team obviously hasn’t seen the kind of numbers they’ve been putting up this year. Goaltending super stud Nick Rose relaxed in the back-up role while Dillon Ward put up a shut-out first period and took the win for Orangeville. Glen Bryan had one goal and six assists, while Andrew Suitor also had six helpers and Mat Macleod and John Quarrie scored three apiece.

Whitby Warriors 18 Akwesasne Indians 7

Rough weekend for the Indians as Mark Matthews lit ‘em up for four goals and five assists and Mark Cockerton had four and four to improve the Warriors to .500 on the season.

Saturday, June 6

Victoria Shamrocks 15 Langley Thunder 9

The now 10-3 Shamrocks sit firmly in second place with the win over Langley, courtesy of Joel Henryand his three goals and Adam Hickey’s 32 saves. Victoria’s Tom Falkiner also connected on both of his shots to put up two goals for the ‘Rocks.

Delta Islanders 10 Coquitlam Adanacs 3

On Saturday the Islanders got the win many were waiting for, ending the Adanacs’ unbeaten streak at 10. It was Blake Duncan making 33 stops to give his team the win while Logan Schuss had two goals and four assists, Carlton Schuss had two goals one helper, and Robbie Campbell chipped in two and one as well.

Sunday, June 7

Burnaby Lakers 11 Victoria Shamrocks 6

The Jason Voorhees of the B.C. Jr. A loop, the Burnaby Lakers have returned to their winning ways, earning their fifth win in a row over Victoria on the strength of 38 saves from Brodie MacDonald and five points from Riley Loewen. Shaun Dhaliwal and Chase Clark contributed four points apiece. The Lakers have now crept into fourth place.

Nanaimo Timbermen 13 PoCo Saints 12

Mitch McLaren’s third of the evening ended up being the game-winner as the T-men edged out the Saints. Cody Bremner had three goals two helpers, and Colton Clark one and five.

Alberta Jr. A lacrosse

There were two games on Sunday, the Jr. Mounties vs. the Eclipse, and the Jr. Miners vs. the Sr. Slash. Details on both games are unavailable at the moment but if the carrier pigeon arrives to update the Alberta Jr. A lacrosse website anytime soon, I’ll let you know.

Mimico Mountaineers 15 Nepean Knights 6

Four goals from Matthew Barry and three from Tyler Campbell capped a team effort that saw eight Mountaineers contributing to the scoreboard. Evan Sangwin took the win in net.

Clarington Green Gaels 14 Cornwall Celtics 1

Mike McCusker scored four, Shayne Jackson and Curtis Knight had three each and Zach Palmer assisted on five while Zack Higgins and Matt Chamois split time in net (with the win going to Higgins) as the undefeated Green Gaels made a mess of the second-in-the-far-east Celtics.

Orillia Rama-Hammond Kings 6 Gloucester Griffins 3

The first-in-their-division Gloucester are now 9-6 following a break-out game from Orillia’s Riley McNeely who had a hattrick and a shut-down game from goaltender Ryan Jones.

Mississauga Tomahawks 8 Halton Hills Bulldogs 7

The Tomahawks have earned their second win of the season with a surprise OT victory over the first-in-the-South East Halton Hills. Nic Smith’s only goal of the game came when it really counted, nearly eight minutes into OT. Lukas Coote stopped 50, including 13 in OT.

Elora Mohawks 4 Niagara Thunderhawks 4

A battle of the goaltenders came to a tie as Julian Fouzey stopped 47 for the Thunderhawks and Dan Humphrey turned away 46 for Elora.

Hamilton Bengals 7 Windsor AKO Fratmen

A little bit of an upset as the 6-10 Bengals flipped the 11-3 Fratmen. It was Zach Hill with the game-winner, his second of the game. Joey Cupido contributed two and two and Matt Oddi earned the win in net.

Orangeville Northmen 10 London Blue Devils 5

Dustin Caravello’s four goals helped the Northmen double up on the Blue Devils while Curtis Rydall stopped 41 in net.

Sunday, June 7

Gloucester Griffins 8 Mississauga Tomahawks 7

Goaltender Alex Ince and Nick Pankiw and the Gloucester defense held on yesterday while Scott Stephens and Dan Lapansee locked up the win with one goal apiece in OT. Ince made 52 saves.

Mimico Mountaineers 11 Markham Ironheads 7

The Ironheads’ troubles continue as they’ve now lost six in a row. Reilly Smith’s four goals for Mimico as well as Matthew Barry’s six assists certainly didn’t make things any easier for them, but it did give the Mountaineers their eighth win on the season.

Newmarket Saints 7 Orillia Rama-Hammond Kings 6

Another close one as Ryan Besse had the lone third period marker, sealing up the win for the Saints. Jordan Rothery kept the Kings quiet between the Newmarket pipes.

Clarington Green Gaels 14 Huntsville Hawks 2

What else is new as Mike McCusker had one goal and eight assists, Ryan Serville two and five, Curtis Knight one and five, and Shayne Jackson four and one. Zack Higgins got the win in net while his Huntsville counterpart Travis Hallyburton faced a whopping 71 shots, turning away 57 of them.

Owen Sound NorthStars 7 Six Nations Rebels 6

The Rebels were stuck with their sixth loss of the season as Owen Sound earned their ninth win and Nathan Barfoot earned all the abuse he’s become accustomed to. Mike Quaid had the game-winner.

Oakville Buzz 12 Wallaceburg Red Devils 9

Mike Dawson led the Buzz with four goals and one assist while David Diruscio took home his first win of the season in net.

Guelph Regals 8 Welland Warlords 5

The Warlords may not have shown up yesterday but Jordan Godin and Lucas Vanderwilp definitely did, each scoring twice in the win.

St. Catharines Spartans 7 Niagara Thunderhawks 6

After assisting on the game-tying goal, it was Kyle Winterbottom scoring the winner, his lone marker of the game. Sean Frankland had three including the equalizer.

Sarnia Pacers 8 London Blue Devils 7

Riley Thompson’s first of the game stood up as the winner, Jimmy Purves scored three and Joe Allision two. With the win the Pacers jump ahead of the Blue Devils for third place in the far west.
