Jamieson has Six Nations on top of MSL, plus the links

Come on now, are you really surprised? Be honest. Cody Jamieson’s tearing up Major Series Lacrosse this summer, and you know absolutely no one is the least bit shocked. Last year’s Junior of the Year is leading the circuit with 21 goals and 22 assists in just seven games. Not coincidentally, his Six Nations Chiefs are 6-2 and at the top of the MSL standings with 12 points. ““Cody  … really knows how to put the ball in the net when he gets the opportunity,” Chiefs coach Darris Kilgour told The Peterborough Examiner recently after Jamieson lit up the Lakers for 10 points.

That 10-point effort was last Thursday and since then, the Chiefs put away St. Regis in a weekend series by a combined score of 29-8. Jammer had 5 and 2 in SN’s 16-5 win on Saturday, then toned it down with 1 and 4 in Sunday’s 13-3 win.

Of course, there’s more to it than Jamieson. It doesn’t suck when your goalies are Ken Montour and Matt Vinc. Monster’s sportin’ a 7.69 goals-against average and when Vinc steps in, the defense doesn’t lose a step or a stop as Vinc his holdin’ down a 7.34 GAA. The best stat of all so far for Six Nations has got to be the work of the killers, who lead the league by shutting down an astonishing 80 percent of their foes’ power plays.

All that great work on defense is setting up the balanced offense for the Chiefs, who already have nine different players in double figures, led by Jamieson’s 43 points, 33 points from Delby Powless and 28 from Roger Vyse.

Looks like the Chiefs are on a roll, and after a Friday road game at Barrie this week, the mettle of the Chiefs will be tested with their next two games against Peterborough. Sunday afternoon’s game is at home against the Lakers, and on Thursday night, the teams square off in Peterborough.

Loose balls: The Chiefs are playing great ball, but Todd Hambleton of the Standard Freeholder wants to know where exactly are their home games being played  … Remember the 1-5 start for Brooklin? Well, it’s 2-5 now with Kurtis Wagar anchoring a confidence-boosting win over Peterborough … Props to Brooklin’s Shawn Williams for his induction to the Brock University Athletics Hall of Fame … What’s up in the Junior A world?
