Geoff Snider and Taylor, Devan Wray team up for West Coast 150 Lacrosse Camp in Burnaby
Geoff Snider and Devan and Taylor Wray have a pretty sweet camp cooking for Canada’s West Coast. Their West Coast 150 Lacrosse Camp runs July 20-22 in Burnaby, B.C. The goal of the camp is to better prepare Canadian players for NCAA lacrosse. In addition to the three directors, among those in attendance will be Bryant’s Mike Pressler, Towson’s Shawn Nadelen, Drexel’s Greg Raymond, St. John’s assistant Dan Paccione, Bellarmine’s Bart Sullivan, Queens head coach Jim Fritz and Mercyhurst’s Brendan Burke. Here’s a letter from Snider and the Wrays breaking down the inaugural camp, at the Burnaby West Sports Complex…
Dear Players (and Parents),
I hope that this message finds you doing well and enjoying another exciting box lacrosse season. This letter is being written to inform the lacrosse community about a unique recruiting and instructional field lacrosse camp coming to the Vancouver area this summer. From July 20th-22nd West Coast 150 will be presenting the first annual WEST COAST 150 lacrosse camp. The West Coast 150 camp is designed to provide NCAA exposure and elite level instruction from top NCAA coaches and players to the top high school-aged lacrosse players in Western Canada. This intense three-day camp will give you the opportunity to learn the field discipline from the best coaches and players in North America while providing the platform for you to showcase their ability in front of NCAA coaches.
The West Coast 150 is not only looking for Western Canada’s best high school lacrosse players, but we are seeking those players who pride themselves on being student-athletes and have a strong desire to play lacrosse at the collegiate level. This is the only lacrosse camp of this kind in Western Canada – designed by Canadian players who have gone through the NCAA process (self marketing/promotion, recruiting, NCAA clearing house, official visits, and graduation) and understand the needs of both the developing Canadian player and NCAA lacrosse coaches.
As athletes who grew up in Alberta with goals of furthering our careers, the NCAA became the platform which ultimately launched our lacrosse experience. We understand the recruiting barrier for Western Canadian players who have limited exposure to college coaches. In the past, the only opportunity to get “noticed” by NCAA coaches was to fly to the Eastern United States and attend a camp or tournament. We went through that process 10 years ago and were fortunate to be recruited to Duke University and the University of Denver. Following our careers at Duke and Denver, we have now had a total of 12 years combined experience in the NCAA, 19 years combined experience at the Pro level, and have all played for the Canadian National Team. Taylor Wray stayed in the US and began a coaching career at the Division I collegiate level. Over the last few years he has been heavily involved in the recruiting process and in Taylor’s opinion it has become glaringly obvious that there is not an appropriate means to educate, instruct, identify and evaluate Canadian high school aged field lacrosse players.
At a time when the Canadian impact in NCAA lacrosse is at an all-time high, and college coaches are actively searching for the next Canadian stars, there is a void in providing Western Canada’s best and brightest young players the platform to develop and showcase their field lacrosse skills. That void is what we hope to fill with the West Coast 150 lacrosse camp. At the West Coast 150, each camper will be placed on a team coached by NCAA coaches, and will go through three days of intense instruction and highly competitive game play. Over the course of camp, players will improve their skills and abilities while showcasing themselves in front of their own appointed NCAA coach and the NCAA coaches of each opposing team. On the final day of camp, our staff will pick two All-Star teams to participate in our annual All-Star game.
Another component of the West Coast 150 lacrosse camp is helping Canadian players to understand the recruiting process. Included in the structure of camp is a one-hour seminar that will address the topics of academics, recruiting timelines, the differences between the NCAA divisions, an explanation of the NCAA clearing house, and much more. If playing collegiate lacrosse is something you want to pursue, this is an opportunity you cannot afford to miss.
