Wings working hard to push NLL in Philly, plus the links

So the big news out of the National Lacrosse League this week didn’t include anything about the players. At least not current players. NLLInsider.com broke the news on two front office stories this week, the first being that Duane Jacobs stepped down from as coach of the Minnesota Swarm. And yesterday, Philadelphia Wings coach Dave Huntley became the team’s general manager. So while the rumors circulate about where Dewey may end up, Huntley’s got his hands full in Philly but he also knows he has plenty of help as The Gloucester County Times breaks down how guys like Athan Iannucci and Geoff Snider help pimp the game’s popularity to the uncoverted.
“I do a little bit of work with the office and see what extent they go to, to get people out,” Iannucci said of competing against football, baseball, basketball and hockey for attention. “It’s great that we have people to do that because we need every butt in the seat we can get.”
It might be a little easier for Snider, who works at Wachovia Center, home of the Wings, and doesn’t have quite the balancing act that many of his teammates do.
“Most guys work during the week and fly out here on weekends,” said Snider, who also is getting back out West for a bit to help run a lacrosse camp there. “I’m privileged enough to work at the (Wachovia) Center and work with the team. A lot of other guys are in the work force; teachers, training, whatever it may be. They’re holding other jobs on top of this.”
Point is, even though it’s the offseason for the NLL, it doesn’t mean there is no work to do. There’s always something and it doesn’t matter who does it. Front office, player, dancer, whatever. It’s gotta be done and so it is.
