Coverage of the NLL’s Toronto Rock’s New Owner, Plus the Links

The Toronto Star has a story on the new owner of the Toronto Rock, Jamie Dawick. And there’s a story in the Melbourne Herald-Sun about Brendan Fevola, an Aussie Rules Football star, who was once a lacrosse enthusiast.

Fevola was commenting in the paper about the recently-announced two-game all-star series between NLL all-stars and host Australians in October.

As Fevola told the paper:

Lacrosse, the game Brendan Fevola’s mum wouldn’t let him play because it was too rough, will be put on Melbourne’s sporting map in October.

Two All-Star games boasting some of the best players in the world from the US National Lacrosse League will be played at Hisense Arena.

The Carlton star yesterday revealed his family had a long association with the sport and that the Malvern Lacrosse Club “was my second home”.

“I loved lacrosse, but my mum wouldn’t let me play. She thought it was too rough,” Fevola said.

“Dad used to get stitches and have bloody noses and broken bones every week so Mum said I couldn’t play and that’s how I started playing footy.

“I wanted to play but you had to listen to your parents in thosedays.”

Fevola’s father and uncle played lacrosse and he joked that he would consider facing the NLL All-Stars “if my mum lets me.”
