In a blockbuster signing from earlier this week, Geoff Snider has inked a deal with Major Series Lacrosse’s Peterborough Lakers, and was in the lineup last night for the ‘07 Mann Cup winners during their 9-7 win over the Brooklin Redmen.

Snider finished the game with six minutes in the sin bin, two minutes apiece for slashing, tripping and unsportsmanlike conduct.

“It has been a challenging situation, but we are most pleased to have Geoff join our Laker roster,” said Lakers’ head coach Jamie Batley in yesterday’s Peterborough Examiner. ” He will be able to play the remaining Laker games and of course qualify for playoff play.”

Snider, who had previously played for the Coquitlam Adanacs in the WLA and currently also suits up for the MLL’s Toronto Nationals, was able to be signed by the Lakers due to what Batley tells The Examiner, is a “unique working relationship” with Coquitlam.

“Geoff is the best faceoff guy to play the game,” Batley told the Peterborough paper. “It gives you a chance to have more ball possession and control of the game. He’s a gritty, determined guy who doesn’t shy away from the corners and can play both ways really well.”

Tonight, the Lakers play the Six Nations Chiefs, who a couple weeks back picked up enforcer and long time lacrosse “heavyweight champ”, Tim O’Brien. Fans and players alike are already anticipating a clash between the two tonight (Peterborough Memorial Arena, 8PM EST).

O’Brien recently beat-up on Lakers’ pugilist, Daryl Welsh, in the Chiefs 10-7 OT win over Peterborough last week.

The Examiner also reports that the Lakers will be without defender Kyle Laverty for the entire summer due to work commitments. The exclusion of Laverty freed up a roster spot for Snider.
