Inside Lacrosse’s Sean Burns is reporting that after an agonizingly long wait, Jeremy Thompson has finally been given the green light at Syracuse University, the school accepting and enrolling the former LaFayette High School star, IL confirming with Syracuse earlier today.

Thompson, who last season completed his final year of Jr. A lacrosse with the Akwesasne Indians and is currently suiting up for the MSL’s St. Regis Indians, had been rumoured to have potentially been making the move to Syracuse last year, instead spending ‘09 as an NJCAA All American middie at Onondaga Community College, scoring a hat-trick in the NJCAA final en route to the school’s third junior college title over the past four years.

The Orangemen’s newest recruit has fit into five games with St. Regis this summer, scoring an impressive eight goals alongside such NLL stars at John Tavares, Athan Iannucci and Mark Steenhuis.

Inside Lacrosse reports that Thompson will still have two years of NCAA eligibility left after three years at OCC, meaning he won’t be NLL draft eligible until the 2011 Entry Draft, joining a prospect field in ‘11 that already includes such players as Michael Pires (Victoria Jr. Shamrocks & Ohio St.), Jordan McBride (New West Sr. Bellies & Stony Brook), Evan Kirk (KW Sr. Kodiaks & Hobart), Garrett Ince (Virginia), Kevin Crowley (New West Jr. Bellies and Stony Brook) and Thompson’s new Syracuse teammate, Stephen Keogh (Barrie Sr. Lakeshores and Syracuse).

Jeremy’s younger brother, Jerome Thompson, recently traded by the Jr. A Indians to the Six Nations Arrows in the OLA along with recent Rochester Knighthawks’ pick-up Peter Jacobs, is still thought to also be pursuing a similar path as his brother to Syracuse.

The younger Thompson brother currently has 51-points in 22 games between Six Nations and Akwesasne this junior season.
