The overhaul in Toronto continues, the team also releasing long time pro vet and multiple Cup winning forward, Jason Clark, who joins former teammate Jason Crosbie as the latest players axed by newly appointed Rock GM, Terry Sanderson.
Sanderson was not done this week however, moving former franchise first pick from the ‘07 entry draft, Mark Scherman, who went to the Edmonton Rush, the Rock receiving former K-W Braves captain and current K-W Kodiaks defender, Dave Cutten, who has impressed this summer playing his first full season of Sr. A ball after suiting up for the Sr. B Wellington Aces in ‘08.
Clark, who was picked up as a free agent mid-season by the Rock this past winter, had gone undrafted in the Chicago Shamrox Dispersal Draft, but was brought on board shortly after the hiring of Jamie Batley as the team’s short lived head coach.
The former Peterborough Lakers Mann Cup winning captain finished his ‘09 season registering 11-points in three starts with the Rock. Clark currently has 17-points in eight games with Batley’s Lakers.
Meanwhile, Scherman is having a bit of a breakout season for the WLA’s last place Burnaby Lakers, second on the team in scoring with 23-points in nine games with Burnaby.
It’s widely expected by many that the Rock are far from finished retooling their roster, more trades likely to come over the coming weeks leading up to the NLL entry draft, where the Rock currently sit with the sixth and seventh overall selections.
Although trade rumours are rampent behind the scenes, one thing is clear, the 2010 version of the Toronto Rock will be vastly different from the one that kicked off an eventually very dissapointing ‘09 NLL season.
