NLL, Canadian stars shine at Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game
There was a lot of indoor/Canadian flavo(u)r to Thursday night’s Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game in Denver, as nearly every headliner either hails from up north or plays in the indoor league as well as the MLL.
Prototypical transition/long pole superstar Brodie Merrill was front-and-center when the game mattered most, scoring the game-winning goal for the ‘Old School’ team in overtime. The Nationals were also well-represented by wins in the halftime Skills Competition by Brett Queener (Freestyle) and Merrick Thomson (2-point shooting).
The other Skill Competiton winner was Washington Stealth runner Paul Rabil, who sizzled the nets at a record-breaking 111-MPH, one better than Cornell alum Max Seibald – who is a likely NLL draft pick this fall. Colorado Mammoth forward (and IL cover-boy this winter) Brian Langtry took home a check himself as the game’s Bud Light MVP, after hitting for a record three 2-point shots for a game-high seven points (he also had an assist).
Plenty of other players from both sides of the border were featured in the action, broadcast live on ESPN2. For full coverage of the event, visit Inside Lacrosse’s in-game blog from Denver at this link.
