Anonymous Scouting Report: Alberta Jr. B lacrosse finals, Mounties vs. Warriors

Looking at the Alberta Jr. B lacrosse championship match-up from over here in Ontario is just a little bit of head-scratching and stat-crunching and then a whole lot of posturing, so for your last-minute look at the impending Calgary Mountaineers and Edmonton Warriors clash, we threw the preview reins to one of the best lacrosse minds in the province. The series starts tomorrow night, but the analysis starts right now, so without further ado, here’s your anonymous scouting report.

Mounties vs Warriors…………….

Both teams are well coached and are definitely ready to go. The Mounties are trying for a third Provincial in a row. Warriors want the title badly before heading into 2009 Founders. How they stack up:

OFFENSE:

Mounties had 220 goals for the regular season
Warriors had 167 goals for the regular season

Mounties are a two way team. No O & D for this team. Fast breaking at every chance with a lot of ball movement. Average 11 goals a game. 9 Players with 10 or more goals. That is why they were 19 & 1.

Warriors are strictly O & D. Two main guys score their goals. League scorer Adam Stuckless 34 G + 26 A = 60 pts with Dave Lehman 23 G + 33 = 56 pts. When the Warriors swing the ball they are deadly around the net.

DEFENSE:

D wins championships. Mounties with their man to man press only allowed 79 goals in 20 games….3.95% Avg

Warriors allowed 114 Goals in 20 games…not bad but the average does not compete with the Mounties at 5.7% Avg

TRANSITION:

There is a draw here. Mounties and Warriors move the ball very well. Very few turnovers from both teams. They do not walk the ball down the floor. Between them, 387 goals…that’s what we call ball movement.

GOALTENDING:

This is going to be interesting. The goaltenders for both teams are very good. Lots of experience between the pipes for both teams. I give the edge to the Warriors as Kyle Kowalchuk can cover a lot of territory. Only concern here is can he compete with the heat…

PREDICTION:

Warriors are coming off a very impressive sweep in the play-offs. Scoring goals, stingy D, it looks like they have hit their stride. The Mounties had their hands full with the Silvertips. Warriors in 5.
