Last week we shifted gears a bit from our usual National Jr. A Rankings, instead counting down the still in the running teams during this year’s playoffs, starting with our favourite (as of today anyways) to hoist the Minto Cup to the teams that still have a little more work ahead of them to reach the next round of this summer’s playoffs. A bit of a post-season power rakings if you will.

This week, the OLA’s big boys are body baggin’ the opposition, while BC losses another contender and Alberta is ready to kick-off one helluva finale. After the jump, check out where the remaining potential Minto champs stand heading into the nitty gritty of this year’s post-season. READ MORE »

Redmen giving Lakers quite the MSL battle

The Brooklin Redmen came into the Major Series Lacrosse playoffs with a 4-14 record, while the Peterborough Lakers came in with a 12-6 mark. Mismatch, right? Wrong. The Lakers won the first two games, 13-10 and 7-4, but the Redmen rallied to win Saturday’s Game 3, 10-9, with Game 4 scheduled for tonight at Brooklin at 8 p.m. That the Redmen won Saturday was a mild surprise, especially after goalie Mike Miron was sent off in the second period for illegal equipment. His sin? Cutting the palms out of his gloves. By that time, though, the Redmen had an 8-1 lead and they held off a huge Lakers rally to win. READ MORE »

Mickey Mouse and screaming with joy child potentially reacting to the Titans rolling into town.

After several months of behind the scenes speculation and a flurry of rumours that have engulfed this summer’s National Lacrosse League off-season, the future of the New York Titans finally seems to be virtually 100% clear.

NLL Insider has learned from numerous sources that the long speculated move of the Titans to Orlando, Florida is looking increasingly likely at this point, ownership crossing T’s and dotting I’s over the past few weeks, nixing the rumoured move that would have had the Titans at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, a destination that was very much a serious full-time option earlier this off-season.  READ MORE »

Fann Cup in Chicago this weekend

If you’re a lacrosse fan and happen to be rollin’ around in Illinois this weekend, make sure you get over to the Players Indoor Sports Center in Naperville, Ill., for the eighth edition of the Fann Cup. Comprised of fan clubs of National Lacrosse League teams, the Cup is played annually in rotating cities and Saturday’s tournament will feature more than 200 players on teams from Buffalo, Chicago, Rochester, Minneapolis, Philadelphia and Toronto. The tournament has raised more than $30,000 for charity over the years and this year’s beneficiaries are the American Diabetes Association and the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

Busy offseason of NLL moves isn’t all bad news, plus the links

I can’t remember a busier off-season for the National Lacrosse League, and I’m not even talking about player moves. We’ve already had a dispersal draft and a bunch of player trades, but we’ve also had no fewer than three teams make major moves. The Portland LumberJax have sadly folded, the San Jose Stealth are looking for new life in Everett, Wash., and now the New York Titans are on the verge of moving to Orlando, Fla. Is this a good or bad thing? Well, it certainly isn’t great, but it doesn’t have to be all bad because today’s NLL has more than one success story of franchises that have indeed found greener grass on the other side of the fence.  READ MORE »
