Titans still working on deal with city/Amway Arena, announcement expected soon

The expected new home of the Titans, Amway Arena in Orlando, Florida.
The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that the New York Titans ownership group is still in negotiations with the city of Orlando on a lease agreement, that once completed, would have last year’s Champion’s Cup finalists finally making their long anticipated move to Central Florida.
“We’re still in discussions with them, and things are progressing nicely,” said Orlando’s venues director in today’s edition of The Sentinel. “Hopefully, in the next week or so there will be more to come.”
Earlier today, NLL Insider confirmed with a source close to the situation that although the team is still negotiating the lease with the city, it’s thought that things will be finalized very soon, an official announcement made by the Titans organization potentially as early as next week.
The National Lacrosse League issued this statement to the Orlando based paper yesterday, “The owners of the New York Titans franchise filed an application last month with the league for the purpose of exploring a potential relocation to Orlando, Florida, for the 2010 season. It is our understanding that the club is continuing to explore that opportunity. The league will have no further comment at this time.”
Amway Arena is currently home to the NBA’s Orlando Magic and was the previous home of the AFL’s Orlando Predators. The AFL, who terminated last year’s season due to the country’s economic climate with plans of rebuilding their current business model, suspended operations this week completely, shutting down the indoor football league permanently for 2010 and beyond.
The arena has a 15,948 capacity for hockey games, likely the same for the Titans come 2010.
Shortly after NLL Insider’s initial report that the Titans were planning on moving to Orlando, although the franchise has not issued any official press releases about their anticipated move, the team did post the following comment on their twitter page, “NY Titans are shifting operations to Orlando, Florida….thanks for your support over the past 3 years New York!”
