NLL Insider has learned that the Calgary Roughnecks are close to officially announcing the addition of Rod Jensen as the team’s defensive coach heading into the 2010 National Lacrosse League season.

Jensen joins the recently promoted Dave Pym and first-year pro coach Curt Malawsky on the defending Champion’s Cup winner’s bench, fully replacing the departed Troy Cordingley and Terry Sanderson from last year’s staff, both of whom have landed in Toronto, Cordingley of course being named the league’s ‘09 coach of the year.

Jensen has previously served in main coaching roles in the NLL before, an assistant with the defunct Vancouver Ravens under Pal Dal Monte, later spending nine games during the ‘03 season as the head coach of the Colorado Mammoth.

Currently Jensen serves as a scout for the WLA’s Coquitlam Adanacs, a team he himself coached, guiding them to a Mann Cup final just two summers ago. In ‘02 Jensen and his bench were named coaching staff of the year in the BCJALL while leading the expansion Delta Islanders to a 12-12 record.

Jensen is also a former WLA player, having spent time with the Vancouver Burrards through the 80’s and early 90’s, later coaching the North Shore Indians after retiring from the floor.
