WLA: Coquitlam and New Westminster, one win away from West Final
The Coquitlam Adanacs came out flying in the semis to take a 2-0 series lead over the top-ranked Victoria Shamrocks, before the green and white responded with a key win at home. Game 4 went to the Adanacs, who now hold a comfortable 3-1 series lead.
In the other semis, the defending WLA champion New Westminster Salmonbellies hold a commanding 3-0 series lead over the young Langley Thunder. New West has outscored Langley 41 to 19 through the first three playoff games.
Victoria vs Coquitlam
Coquitlam’s Dane Dobbie and Victoria’s Lewis Ratcliff are tied for the playoff scoring lead. The A’s have also received strong offensive production from Curt Malawsky, Tim Campeau, Peter Veltman and Cory Conway.
Preview: “I hope people are counting us out, quite frankly,” A’s GM Les Wingrove told the Tri-City News.
Game 1 – Adanacs stun Shamrocks in opener (COQ 17, VIC 15) “Ouch,” said a frustrated Victoria coach Art Webster. “We had a power play and had the opportunity to win, and they scored… Who would have written that one up.”
Game 2 – Late surge puts Adanacs in command (COQ 15, VIC 12) “There’s a lot of heart on this team,” said Coquitlam coach Andy Ogilvie. “We had a lot of opportunity to quit, and didn’t.”
Game 3 – ‘Rocks fight back (VIC 13, COQ 11) “We challenged them [at the break],” said Victoria coach Art Webster. “I told them, ‘Don’t even step on the floor, if you don’t think we’re going to win.’”
Game 4 – Adanacs outrun Shamrocks (COQ 12, VIC 8 ) “I just think Coquitlam outworked them again,” said NLL Insider’s Ted Jenner.

New West vs Langley
Reigning WLA Playoff MVP and top National Lacrosse League (NLL) prospect Ilija Gajic leads all ‘Bellies in scoring with nine goals, 13 points through three games. Scott Stewart, Cliff Smith and Jordan McBride have also cracked double digit scoring.
Langley rookie star Garrett Billings has been held to five points. The Thunder have been led offensively by Stephan Leblanc and Alex Turner but have been unable to break-down New West’s top-ranked defense.
Preview: ““Langley will be hungry but our guys are focused and ready to go,” said New West GM Dan Richardson.
Game 1 – Salmonbellies silence Thunder (NW 12, LGY 5) “We were ready to go, and we’re going to be better. This is just the start,” added Salmonbellies bench boss Bob Salt.
“You can’t just fall back and shoot from the perimeter, you have to get to the middle and pay the price,” contributed Langley’s Garrett Billings with the Langley Times. “(New West) are a big and mean defence.”
Game 2 – Thunder in 0-2 hole (NW 15, LGY 7) “The Langley Thunder’s foray into the post-season could be a short one,” wrote Gary Ahuja of the Langley Times.
