MSL’s Game 3 suspended by power outage, but now there’s MLL to consider too

News outta Peterborough Thursday night is that Game 3 of the Major Series Lacrosse finals between Brampton and Peterborough was suspended in the first period because of a power outage. Game’s supposed to resume tonight, but it’ll be real interesting because no less than six players involved in this series play for the Toronto Nationals of Major League Lacrosse, whose Championship Weekend begins Saturday in Annapolis, Md. The Nationals are scheduled to play Long Island at 3 p.m. so there’s either gonna be mad shufflin’ going on between north and south or some teams are gonna be without some key players. Who’s affected? Turn the page.

From the Brampton squad, Brodie Merrill, Colin Doyle, Shawn Williams, Dan Dawson and Phil Sanderson are all on the Nationals roster. From Peterborough, Geoff Snider, Kyle Sorensen and John Grant Jr. are on the Nationals roster.

See what we mean? These aren’t exactly chump players here. To be fair, not all of these guys have played big roles with the Nationals this season for various reasons, but a few have been key contributors. Doyle’s fourth on the team in scoring with 26 points in 10 games, Snider’s been his usual faceoff monster (195-of-385) and has 21 points in 12 games. Merrill’s played in 12 games and has 20 points, and Williams has played in 10 games too. Junior’s got just one game under his belt for the Nationals, but he had 5 goals in that one game.

Sorenson played just two games for Toronto and Dawson just four and neither has been very active with the field team all summer. Sanderson was played on IR by Toronto in early July.

So what happens? Hard to say, but with tonight’s 8:30 p.m. start for the resumption of Game 3 and Game 4 scheduled for a 7 p.m. start Sunday night in Peterborough, it’s a weekend of decisions for some of these guys. Especially if the Nationals win on Saturday, because that’ll put them in Sunday’s 1 p.m. MLL title game.

Who’s going and who’s staying?  Should be interesting.
