Titans settling into Florida’s sunshine, plus the links

The National Lacrosse League Titans are settling into Orlando, Fla., just fine, thank you. Team president Steve Donner says ticket sales are moving along briskly he was pleasantly surprised to have 200 season ticket packages sold in the first 48 hours after the team’s initial news conference to announce its arrival. It’s especially cool, he says, because the team really hasn’t even kicked into promo gear, so he’s pretty optimistic of what’s to come once the media blitz is unleashed. The team’s new Web site is up and running, in case you haven’t seen it, and you can also be among the first to load up on Titans gear, which also is up for sale at the site.
There’s still plenty to figure out, of course, but there’s also plenty of time to get it all done. Donner’s no stranger to the world of NLL, of course, having beein involved with the Rochester Knighthawks for years. His knowledge and expertise in running a team should help the Titans get started on the right foot in their new home and it won’t hurt that having a team in sunny Florida gives snowbirds up north a vacation option during the winter months.
Of course, there’s also the knowledge that Florida is one of the sports newest hot spots with participation in the game among youths growing and growing.
It’s a recipe for success and even if you’re a Philly or Boston fan, you know you’ve got to put aside your natural rivalry with the Titans and wish them well as they expand the boundaries of NLL. That doesn’t mean you want the Titans to win, especially if they’re playing your boys, but anything that grows the game and strengthens the foundation of NLL has got to be a good thing for lacrosse overall.
