NLL Entry Draft: Hello My Name Is… Dan Hardy

Syracuse & Denver middie Dan Hardy
Syracuse & Denver middie Dan Hardy

Although skill, a loaded resume and the game-tools needed for the box game are things National Lacrosse League GM’s and scouts are always looking for when analyzing prospective NCAA American studs, there’s one thing above any of that that is a total must-have…

… the right attitude.

We’ve seen countless top US college names get drafted and then never show up to NLL training camps (for whatever reason), infuriating fans, players and coaches with “what could have been”.

Even though he was late showing up to the San Jose Stealth’s camp last season, we were fortunate enough to see Paul Rabil commit to the pro indoor game. This year, we’ll definitely have another one in MLL rookie of the year and former Syracuse middie, Dan Hardy.

Hardy, who played for the MLL’s Denver Outlaws this past pro field season, is about as amped about the NLL as any American NLL Insider has checked in with over the years, a sincere, honest interest that will no doubt have Hardy as one of the top Americans taken in next month’s draft.

Check out how SU’s offensive minded middie thinks he’ll fit into the league, and why his first NLL training camp will be far from the first time he’s played ball between the boards.

DAN HARDY

Height: 6′4″
Weight: 220 lbs.
Shoots: Lefty
From: Tully, New York
NCAA: Syracuse University
MLL: Denver Outlaws

What do you feel your greatest asset is that would allow you to translate your game to the NLL?
I’ll bring an indoor mentality after playing box (indoor) lacrosse all of my life. I played in a box league that started in Lafayette but then moved to Tully once we built a new box field. There were Onondaga Nation teams, then teams from Jordan-Elbridge, Tully, Lafayette, Syracuse and Homer. A lot of the schools around played and a bunch of college All-Americans too.

One (or a couple) word(s) to describe your game?
Intelligent and creative.

What role/position do you see yourself playing in the NLL?
An offensive threat with an accurate outside shot.

What current or former NLLer would you most closely compare or model your game after?
Drew Westervelt
with the Philadelphia Wings.

Your greatest accomplishment (team or individual) during your college, junior or even senior lacrosse career?
Winning back to back national championships at Syracuse.

Anything else to add?
I’d be available to play in most NLL cities. I’m working with Maverik Lacrosse as a sales rep in Upstate New York too.
