For the second straight year, NLL Insider has named the Orangeville Northmen’s Adam Jones our Jr. A Playoff Performer of the Year, Jones also recently named ’09’s Junior of the Year after another stellar season playing for Canada’s top junior club.

Jones, who was also named the Minto Cup’s most outstanding player, won his second career national Jr. A title last night, leading the tournament in scoring with 28-points, the second highest tourney point total since the Minto changed formats in ‘03 (round robin & best of three final).

“It’s definitely something you dream about as a kid,” Jones told the Canadian Press after last night’s win and MVP nod. “It’s icing on the cake. The Minto Cup is what we came for.”

The Orangeville O leader’s five goal performance in the Northmen’s Game 2 series loss to Brampton was also the highest single game goal total the Minto saw this year, and the biggest single game goal performance at the tournament since the final in ‘07, when Six Nations’ Cody Jamieson and Craig Point scored six and five goals respectively to close-out the tournament in a 19-8 smashing of the Burnaby Lakers.

Jones registered two goals and a helper during yesterday’s championship final, all points coming in a heated second period while the Excels tried to muscle their way back into the game.

NLL Insider’s regular season and playoff MVP will now likely be off to Canisius College in coming days after some post-Minto celebrations in Orangeville. Jones led the school in goals (33) last season during his sophomore year, alongside current Orangeville teammate and fellow Minto Cup winner, Travis Gibbons. Both players still have a year of junior lacrosse left in 2010, the Northmen graduating seven players from this year’s star studded cast.
