John Tavares, Steve Toll to help coach Akwesasne Jr. A Indians Lacrosse Club

JT and Toll are two of the NLL’s greatest players; Tavares holds the league’s career goals (671), assists (749) and points (1420) records, while Toll, the 2007 NLL Transition Player of the Year, comes off his eighth 100+ looseball season and sits third all-time with 1,318 LBs. The Indians feature Inside Lacrosse Magazine’s Top Young Gun Rising Junior Lyle Thompson and No. 5 Young Gun Rising Senior Myles Thompson. The press release follows:
The Akwesasne Indians Jr. A’s would like to announce that two NLL players will be joining the coaching staff for the 2010 season.
Joining the current coaching staff of Head Coach Greg Philips and assistant Kevin Smart, the Indians organization are ecstatic to include two super stars of the game John Tavares (Buffalo Bandit) and Steve Toll (Rochester Knighthawk). These experienced players will bring their wealth of knowledge to the team. The Indians organization feels this will show their dedication to providing their players, with a Coaching staff second to none. General Manager Roy Ledoux feels Tavares and Toll will be tremendous asset for recruiting purposes. Ledoux states “these are two respected lacrosse players that will be highly respected on draft day”.
The NLLInsider.com has reported that it comes at great time in the rebuilding process for the Indians organization as they have some of the best young talent in the province, led by yiles and Lyle Thompson. They also report that both Toll and Tavares will be joining the ever growing trend of NLL players coaching at the Jr. “A” level.
Ledoux also feels that the addition to the coaching staff fits well into the teams five year plan. Ledoux says “With these additions we now have a team that can make a good playoff push in the next couple of seasons, with our ultimate goal of winning a Minto Cup for our fans”.
