Battle of the Sexes: Louisville Women and Bellarmine Men End In Tie
Julie “The Cat” said it in the Mighty Ducks 3: (widely considered the worst of the three movies but really, being asked to rank the Mighty Ducks movies from best to worst is more like being asked to rank your favorite candy – they’re all good) “I hate ties. It’s like kissing your brother.”
If that’s the case, then the Louisville women’s lacrosse team and the Bellarmine men’s team are the equivalent of one, big happy family as they played to a tie in a friendly fundraiser and demonstration scrimmage on Friday afternoon.
The game was played at the U of L Lacrosse Stadium and was a clinic for lacrosse players of all ages as well as a fundraiser for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
This event couldn’t have turned out any better for the lacrosse community. We had a ton of people, great lacrosse that benefitted an organization dedicated to saving the lives of children. It is a complete win-win and a great time,” said U of L head coach Kellie Young in a press release.
The game was played using women’s rules and equipment and each team scored eight goals in the contest.
“This was a great get together with our men’s and women’s programs and I hope to do this again in the future. It was a great time and the women were very athletic and gave our guys all they could handle. I hope to see it get bigger and bigger each year and for such a great cause,” said Bellarmine head coach Jack McGetrick.
A photo gallery from the contest can be found at uoflsports.com. It’s a well done gallery and really captures the fun everyone had at the event – highly recommend taking a quick look at it.
