Rock mines Quarrie for defensive help

It’s been a good year for John Quarrie (pictured) and better yet, he’ll get the chance to remind a hockey teammate just how good it’s been. Ya see, Quarrie just won a Minto Cup with the Orangeville Northmen and followed that by being drafted by the Toronto Rock of the National Lacrosse League. But before any of that, Quarrie’s got some hockey to play with the Nipissing University Lakers and who is a teammate there? Why, it’s Andrew Marcoux, who just happened to be a part of the Brampton Excelsiors team that Quarrie and the Northmen beat en route to their second straight Minto Cup.
“I tried to get him over there in Orangeville but it didn’t quite work out,” Quarrie told the North Bay Nugget of Marcoux, who grew up near Guelph with Quarrie. “So we played them in the provincial final, and they were up 3-0 in a best-of-seven and we came back and beat them in four straight.”
Oh yeah, bragging rights. Is there anything sweeter? Not really, but Quarrie earned the right to remind Marcoux of what went down this summer, not that anyone is likely to forget. Still, Quarrie’s lovin’ the fact that he got drafted, by anyone to do anything. Known as a steady defender on the floor or the ice, Quarrie’s got his reasons for loving the fact that he was drafted by Toronto.
“I always wanted to get drafted at something, just as a little bit of motivation,” he told the Nugget.
So will Quarrie help the Rock on defense this year? Remains to be seen as you gotta figure it’s gonna be a tough roster to crack and who knows how his hockey will affect the schedule. But however it works out, it’s cool to see a young fella like Quarrie display the perspective that he’s grateful for the opportunity to be believed in.
