NLL Girl of the Week off-season title match: It’s Corina vs. Amanda

It just doesn’t get much better than this. It’s a perfect storm of sorts, borrowing from a classic rivalry setting to whet your appetite for the upcoming National Lacrosse League season, specifically for you clowns in Rochester and Buffalo. OK, maybe that’s a bit of a stretch as far as getting you ready for the season, but when it comes to just about anything Buffalo vs. Rochester, it’s always about winning. So even if this is “only” an off-season title for the NLL Girl of the Week contest, finalist Amanda from Buffalo and Corina from Rochester should bring out the best from both cities.

Amanda is in the final by virtue of her big win over Jennifer of the Stealth. As we’ve explained before, Jennifer was part of the San Jose Stealth dance team until the team moved north to Washington, but since she was named an NLL Girl of the Week by the league before the team moved, we figured we’d be nice people and keep her name in the running. She did well enough in garnering votes, but Amanda did just a touch better with a final vote count victory of 1,815 to 1,523. So Amanda is in the final with hopes of the upcoming season being her third with the Bandettes. No doubt, she’s got a pretty good idea of what’s up when it comes to playing Rochester in anything, so you gotta figure she’ll fire up the fans somehow to get them involved. Bragging rights between these Thruway rivals always is pretty intense, so let’s just see how the emotions flow in this particular matchup. If you need to know more about Amanda, you can check out our writeup of her here at NLLInsider.com, or the original NLL release when she was named Girl of the Week.

Corina is in the final after her 419 to 213 victory over Leslie in the other semifinal. And make no mistake about it, Corina defintely knows what’s up between Rochester and Buffalo. Corina’s been with the Knightingales since 2000 and has been the dance team director for a few years. So there’s no doubt she’s seen her share of Bandits vs. Knighthawks game, both in the Buffalo barn and Rochester and she knows just how passionate fans are of each. Is Corina gonna be able to give Rochester fans bragging rights for this aspect of the rivalry? Will the Rochester fans back her as much as the Buffalo fans get behind Amanda? Will Corina and Amanda drop the gloves to settle it? Just kidding, of course. We’d never advocate that! As it is, it all remains to be seen, of course, and we do know Corina’s about as dedicated as a dancer comes when it’s about supporting the hometown team. So maybe it’s time for the fans to pay her and the Knightingales back by spreading the word and getting their vote in.  And if you need to know more about Corina, you can check out what we had to say at NLLInsider.com, or read the NLL release when she was named Girl of the Week.

So how about? Who’s going to carry the title of off-season NLL Girl of the Week? Get your vote in and we’ll be back next week to announce the winner.
