BCLA: 2009 Award Recipients
After a busy month in the BC Junior ‘A’ Lacrosse League (BCJALL) which included the hiring of two new head coaches – Jordan Sundher to the Victoria Shamrocks and Curt Malawsky to the Coquitlam Adanacs – this past week was a little more quiet out West.
We’ll use this opportunity then to highlight recent recipients of the British Columbia Lacrosse Association (BCLA) Merit Awards – presented to outstanding volunteers who commit their time to the sport of lacrosse. The BCLA held their annual general meeting in Whistler, B.C., late last month and over 420 people attended.
The 2009 BCLA Merit Award recipients were as follows:
Ted Fridge Family Spirit Award
Frank and Zahia Kirby, New Westminster Senior A Salmonbellies
Irvine-Calder-Nevard Merit Award – Outstanding service through lacrosse sponsorship
Windsor Plywood, Campbell River Minor Lacrosse
Hugh Gifford Merit Award – Manager of the Year
Gina Jung, Cowichan Valley Minor Lacrosse
Tom Gordon Plaque – BCLA’s Mr. or Ms. Lacrosse
Dan Richardson, New Westminster Salmonbellies Senior A Lacrosse Club
Ruth Seward Merit Award – Outstanding involvement by and individual
Lissa Punnett, Cowichan Valley Lacrosse
Norm Wright Merit Award – Media contribution to the promotion of lacrosse
Cowichan Valley Citizen – Kevin Rothbauer
Jimmy Gunn Merit Awards – Referees of the Year
Senior Referee – Terry Foulds, Prince George.
Minor Referee – Derek Harris, Cowichan Valley
Field Referee – Wilson Louie, Victoria Field.
John Cavallin Merit Award – Coaches of the Year
Senior Coach – Randy Delmonico, Langley Senior A Thunder
Minor Coach – Jamie Stewart, New Westminster
Field Coach – Rob Seaton, North Okanagan
Art Daoust Merit Award – Fostering and promoting the game, improving the image and stature of lacrosse in BC
Box Lacrosse – Bev Gilliam, Burnaby Minor Lacrosse
Field Lacrosse – Jane Boutilier, Pacific Coast Field Lacrosse League/Mission Field Lacrosse
Dal Martin Merit Award – Trainer of the Year
Maddie Beaumont, Pt. Coquitlam Junior B
Leon Hall Merit Award – Association of the Year
Box Lacrosse – Langley Minor Lacrosse Association
Field Lacrosse – North Okanagan Youth Field Lacrosse Association
