Earlier today the Edmonton Rush officially announced their most recent blockbuster off-season move, trading for both Gavin Prout and Dean Hill from the Rochester Knighthawks, giving up just a 2011 first round pick and conditional second rounder sometime over the next two drafts.

“We made significant changes to the team over the past few months and I liked how our team was shaping up,” said Rush GM and head coach Derek Keenan through a statement issued by the team. “But I had been saying for a long time that I wanted to add one more marquee offensive player and we’ve done that now with the additional of Gavin.

“He had been a consistent and dynamic offensive threat in this league for a long time and I think he will continue to produce in a big way here in Edmonton, plus give our other offensive players that much more room to work as well.”

The Rush had already added both Ryan Ward and Derek Malawsky to their offense in recent months, to go along with the addition of other high profile names like Brodie Merrill, Scott Stewart, Matt Disher, Pat Jones and pro prospects like Justin Norbraten, Scott Tinning, Corey Small and Dane Stevens.

Prout told NLL Insider shortly after news of the move broke that he feels the Rush’s off-season player movement has improved the team and that he looks forward to helping Edmonton crack a post-season spot for the first time in franchise history.

Logan CoutureJohn Tavares isn’t the only NHL rookie this year with roots connected to the NLL. Logan Couture, son of long-time respected lacrosse ref Chet Couture, cracked the San Jose Sharks’ roster this year, already fitting into seven games with the currently top ranked team in the NHL. In fact, Couture was slated to go first overall in the ‘05 OHL draft until Tavares was named an exception, the league allowing the then 15-year old to be drafted early. (San Jose Sharks)

Matt Moulson links up with former Tommie – And while we’re kicking around NHL and lax connections in ‘09, Tavares is playing on the same line as former Mississauga Tomahawk alumni and Rochester Knighthawks draft pick, Matt Moulson, the two suiting up for the New York Islanders and impressing large alongside Kyle Okposo.
