Insider has confirmed with the National Lacrosse League that the Minnesota Swarm’s Callum Crawford and Washington Stealth defenders Mike Grimes and Matt Beers are facing suspensions stemming from the two team’s Week 6 brawl ignited by a scrap between Sean Pollock and Tyler Richards.
Grimes was handed a two-game sit-down after leaving the Stealth’s bench and being the third man in during the Pollock vs. Richards fight, while Crawford and Beers face one game suspensions, both for leaving their team’s respective benches to join the fray.
The suspensions were delivered late last Friday afternoon after new camera angles from the game were examined by the league, giving them a better view of what exactly transpired in the melee.
All players appealed the league’s decision through the PLPA and played last week during the NLL’s Week 7 action. As of today, the appeals are still on the table and ideally will be heard this week if scheduling permits. If the appeals are not heard this week, the players in question will again be available to play this weekend.
Insider also confirmed that the league is currently reviewing additional altercations from this past weekend’s set of games (as is the norm and done weekly), including Geoff Snider’s crease hit on goaltender Pat O’Toole. Last week’s potential suspensions would likely be handed down late Thursday or early Friday leading into Week 8 action.
Jon Harasym, who was issued a suspension a few weeks back for an illegal cross-check thrown during the Buffalo Bandits 14-10 home loss to the Toronto Rock, will have his appeal heard this week, his fate likely confirmed by Friday. Harasym, who was able to suit up for Buffalo during their most recent game against the Philadelphia Wings due to his appeal, scored the game winner against the Wings to help pull the Bandits to 2-5 on the season.
