Best flow in the National Lacrosse League? It’s Josh Funk vs. Scott Carnegie

NLL playoff time is prime time for flow time.
NLL playoff time is prime time for flow time.

The battle of Boston Blazers teammates in this National Lacrosse League flow contest leaves Kyle Ross standing, and Paul Dawson exiting. Surprising? A bit, perhaps. But Ross clearly was the favored, more than doubling Dawson by a vote count of 230-107 in this week-long voting poll. Does he really have the better flow? It’s all a matter of opinion, of course, so maybe he’s just got a longer social networking reach. Maybe Ross stuffed the ballot box himself. Maybe the flow gods worked some divine intervention. It’s impossible to know the real answer but facts are facts and when ya get more votes than the other fella, ya move on and that’s what we’re doing with the next matchup: Josh Funk vs. Scott Carnegie.

Scott Carnegie's flow leads the Riggers in combs avoided.

Carnegie, a Calgary Roughnecks defenseman, is in this quarterfinal round of the flow machine after his first-round win over Boston’s Brenden Thenhaus, and what a victory it was. Dude pulled in more than 5,000 votes in one of the highest voting totals for any of our matchups this season. Can he pull in that many again? It’s playoff time so he’s gotta be pretty busy breaking down film and talkin’ shop with the rest of the Riggers as they prepare defense of their NLL title. And as much as his defense and speed contributes to the success in Calgary, it goes without saying that the flow of Carnegie has played more than a minor role in the winning. No word as to whether or not Carnegie ever did find a comb but that’s the kinda news we almost don’t wanna get, ya know? Let the flow flow, we say, because you can’t really stop the flow. You can only hope to contain it. Ya hurd.

Josh Funk's flow has a gameplan to snap Minnesota's losing streak.

Funk is a defender who’s in the playoffs too, with the Minnesota Swarm. Now the Swarm aren’t exactly rolling into the NLL playoffs, riding a 6-game losing streak. It goes without saying that a slump-buster is needed in the worst way up in Minnesota and we’re guessing the fellas up there have discussed what needs to be done. Can the flow of Funk contribute? Of course it can. After all, you can’t ignore a flow that pulled off a big upset in the first round over Paul Rabil, right? Thing is, you don’t just address the flow. You wait until it addresses you, and then you follow directions. After all, can we really doubt the influence of a flow that pulled off a big upset in the first round? So maybe the flow, in all its wisdom, realizes that the regular season doesn’t matter much in the grand scheme of things as long as you’re in the playoffs. Funk and the Swarm are in the playoffs, so maybe it’s time they open their hearts and minds, channel the vibes and not only listen to what the flow gods have to offer, but hear the words. There’s a difference between listening and hearing, and we’ll find out this weekend if the Swarm are hearing.

Update: Thanks to a kind e-mailer, we’ve been notified that Funk plans to chop his locks for charity in July. Locks of Love is the recipient and the target goal for donation is $5,000. So either way you cast your vote in this poll, make sure you check out Funk’s link and help out a worth cause.
