With Corey Small graduating, later drafted by the National Lacrosse League’s Edmonton Rush, and Joey Resetarits later sidelined, many wondered how the University of Albany’s lacrosse program would generate much scoring, Small and Resetarits burying a combined 65-goals of the 148 the Great Danes scored in ‘09.

In stepped the very versatile David Brock, who led Albany with a team leading 34-goals this past spring (the highest goal total since Merrick Thomson and Frank Resetarits both smashed the 50-goal barrier in ‘07), a ball player that has filled various roles playing for clubs like the New Westminster Salmonbellies, Burlington Chiefs, and last year as an MSL rookie with the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks, the 2010 pro draft prospect seeing his stock spike over the past 365 days.

Although not suiting up anywhere full-time this summer while finishing up his degree and running some camps in Albany, Brock’s recent seasons, both on the grass and concrete, have generated a lot of interest at the pro ranks, some scouts feeling he’ll be a high or mid second rounder, others even pushing his status into the late first round depending on how things play out.

Brock even garnered a Toronto Nationals’ draft selection, the Major League Lacrosse fanchise taking the Canuck 36th overall at the pro field league’s collegiate draft earlier this month, one of only four players that grew up playing the sport north of the board taken on the day, Cody Jamieson, Ryan McClelland and Kyle Rubisch rounding out the Canadian contingent.

The Burlington native brings an athletic, versatile, high energy, two-way type game, adding some some offensive pop on the press too.

Check out our sitdown with Brock and his career digits below…

DAVID BROCK

Height: 6′3
Weight: 215 lbs
Position: Transition
Shoots: Right
From: Burlington, Ontario
NCAA: Albany
Junior: Burlington Chiefs/New Westminster Salmonbellies
Senior: Kitchener-Waterlook Kodiaks

What do you feel your greatest asset is that would allow you to translate your game to the NLL?
My ability to play both ways. I think I can excel in the transition game which is a big part of the NLL.

Couple words to describe your game?
Hard working and intense.

What role/position do you see yourself playing in the NLL?
I see myself going out the “back door” and playing defense as well as being a big part of the team’s transition game. I also think I could play some O, set picks, etc…

What current or former NLLer would you must closely compare or model your game after?
A couple guys I have always tried to model my game after are Brodie Merrill and Jim Veltman. Their ability to scoop loose balls and get the ball up the floor is also a big part of my game, as well as score a couple goals here and there.

Your greatest accomplishment (team or individual) during you career so far?
Representing the city of New Westminster in the 2007 Minto Cup. Although we didnt win it, we put together a great run.

Anything else to add?
I’m available to play in any NLL city.
